Game 8 Preview: Chatham at Hyannis
CHATHAM, Mass. — It seems as if even Mother Nature is with the Chatham Anglers right now.

After an 0-4 start to the 2026 campaign — which included a -14 run differential — Chatham’s fortune has completely turned around, embarking on a three-game winning streak. The most recent of the victories came Saturday against Falmouth, where a thunderstorm forced the game to be called after just five innings.

The A’s momentum has completely flipped. Now, they look to keep it going Sunday at Hyannis.

Here’s everything to know about the Harbor Hawks (3-4, West) before they host Chatham (3-4, East).

Probable Starters

Oliver Pudvar (UConn) is slated to make his second start of the campaign for Chatham against Sunday. The lefty pitched a solid first four innings in his debut, but got tagged three runs in the fifth inning of the Anglers’ 7-6 loss to Wareham. It gave Pudvar a 9.00 earned run average on the campaign, but he struck out four and showed solid flashes in the loss.

In the opposite bullpen, Easton Barrett (Arizona State) is slated to pitch for Hyannis. The lefthander spent last summer with Falmouth, where he appeared in six games and amassed a 3-1 record and 4.57 ERA. He’s only pitched two innings in relief for the Harbor Hawks this season, giving up one hit, one earned run and striking out four. Those strikeout numbers line up with his 10.29 K/9 mark at ASU this past season.

Hyannis Players To Watch

The Harbor Hawks are on a two game winning streak of their own, piecing together victories over Wareham and Cotuit. In those games, the Hawks scored just seven combined runs. Nonetheless, the offense has some juice.

John Embury (FGCU) has torn up the Cape through five games so far, leading the league in batting average (.524) and placing second in OPS (1.249), only behind Chatham’s Gabe Fraser (Florida State/Transfer). Embury has 11 hits, nine of which are singles, and has driven in two runs. He’s been a consistent threat to get on base, and will be one again against the A’s.

Otherwise, Hyannis gets some more pop from second baseman Charlie Bates (Stanford), who’s hit two home runs and boasts a 1.140 OPS. Half of Bates’ six hits have gone for extra bases, and he’s scored six runs so far. These two bats stand out on a Hyannis offense that ranks eighth in the league with 28 runs scored.

Chatham Players To Watch

Chatham is set to lose a few key players before they embark to Hyannis, including Rett Johnson (NC State) and Jacob Parker (Mississippi State) as they head to Team USA. That means a few Anglers will need to step up to replace some of the top bats in the lineup.

Fraser has been red hot for Chatham during the win streak. He started it with a 4-for-5 performance against Cotuit, which included two home runs and six RBIs. He then tacked on another RBI knock against Brewster on Friday, and turned in a three-hit outing in five innings Saturday. The Anglers will need him to stay hot to rally in Hyannis.

Fraser’s former Seminole teammate Kelvyn Paulino Jr. (Florida State/Transfer) got his third start of the campaign Saturday, and played his best game of the season. Paulino knocked two hits and tallied three RBIs hitting eighth in the order. Should he reenter the starting lineup on Sunday, look for him to get some momentum going at the plate.

Number To Know: 28

Chatham has now scored 28 runs over its past 23 innings of baseball, a clear indication that the Anglers’ bats have woken up after scoring just 10 runs in their first 36 innings. The A’s now rank third in the CCBL with 38 total runs scored.

The win over Cotuit was undoubtedly the turning point, in which Chatham exploded for 17 runs and cruised to its first win of the year. The A’s offense was significantly slower in wins over Brewster and Falmouth the next two days, but still showed sparks of consistent rallies. That’ll get more difficult without Johnson and Parker, but either way, it’s significant growth from the A’s slow start offensively.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers eked out a 5-4 victory over the Harbor Hawks when the teams last met on July 26, 2025.

On the road at McKeon Park, Chatham took an early 3-0 lead thanks to an Ashton Larson (Texas) RBI double, a Daniel Jackson (Georgia) sacrifice fly and Chase Fralick (Auburn) RBI single. The A’s maintained the three-run advantage through seven, but ran into some trouble late after Hyannis cut the lead to one with a two-run eighth inning.

After Kaden Smith (USF) pitched six solid innings, the bullpen had his back late. Will Girardi (Coastal Carolina) pitched 2.2 innings in relief before Caleb Freeman (Eastern Kentucky) shut the door with a one-out save.
