Game 6 Preview: Chatham vs. Brewster
CHATHAM, Mass. — The floodgates finally opened for the Anglers.

After four games of inefficient offense and four straight losses — three of which featured two runs scored or less — Chatham’s bats caught fire Thursday in Cotuit for 17 runs and 15 hits. All but one of the A’s starters logged a hit, and Gabe Fraser (Florida State/Transfer) led the way with four hits, two home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored.

After that 0-4 start — Chatham’s first in over 25 years — it was exactly the performance the A’s (1-4, East) needed to get the season back on track. Now, they host the Brewster Whitecaps (3-2, East) looking to put together their first winning streak of the season.

Here’s everything to know about the two squads ahead of Friday’s matchup.

Probable Starters

After making his debut on Opening Day, Gavin Guidry (LSU) is set to make his second start of the season Friday. Guidry went 3.1 innings in a loss to Bourne, giving up four runs, five hits and a walk. His junior campaign at LSU was also a mixed bag of results. He tossed a career-high 43.2 innings across 20 appearances, but posted a career-low 6.39 earned run average.

Charlie West (UConn) will get the ball for Brewster, also making his second start of the year. West went three innings on Opening Day, leading the Whitecaps to a 9-7 win over Hyannis. He allowed two hits, walked two batters and struck out four without allowing a run. That came after a solid campaign with the Huskies in 2026, where he made 15 starts and pitched to a 4.23 ERA. West has great strikeout stuff, too, ringing up a whopping 111 batters and walking just 37.

Brewster Players to Watch

While the Whitecaps boast a winning record, their offense hasn’t been to thank for that. Brewster has just three players hitting over .200 thus far, but the offense still has a few catalysts.

Jacob Lee (VCU) leads the Whitecaps with a .263 average, .865 OPS and two home runs. Lee hit .336 and mashed 17 home runs for the Rams this spring, and as VCU’s primary catcher, he played a whopping 63 games.

Dane Harvey (Ohio State) leads Brewster with five RBIs, and he’s also knocked a home run. The 6-foot-5 lefty hit .328 for the Buckeyes with 19 home runs in 2026, a clear indication of power. Look for Harvey and Lee to lead the Whitecaps’ offense at Veterans Field Friday.

Chatham Players to Watch

Fraser’s outing Thursday was easily one of the best single game performances in the CCBL this season. Of course, going 4-for-5 with two monster home runs certainly jumps off the page. But Fraser has quietly been one of Chatham’s best hitters this season, now placing second on the team with a .389 batting average and seven hits. Look for him to stay hot on Friday.

After a relatively slow start to his time on the Cape, Cooper Neville (Alabama) also put together a strong game Thursday. Hitting one spot ahead of Fraser, Neville went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He now ranks fourth on the team with a .238 average.

Between Neville and Fraser — who hit seventh and eighth in order Thursday — Chatham’s final third of the lineup has some juice. The top of Chatham’s lineup is loaded, with two Freshman All-Americans, the top player in the transfer portal and one of the hottest hitters on the Cape. But if the Anglers can rely on the bottom of their order to be just as — if not more — effective, they’ll continue to torment pitchers with their bats.

Number to Know: 8

In Thursday’s dominant win, eight of Chatham’s nine starters logged a hit. All nine reached base safely at least once. Now, the highest OPS in the Cape Cod Baseball League belongs to a Chatham Angler. Fraser’s monster night Thursday has him atop the charts, and two other A’s appear in the top 15: Connor Shouse (Texas Tech) and Jacob Parker (Mississippi State).

Long story short, the A’s lineup is good. So good, in fact, that on the Anglers Extra Postgame Show Thursday, Fraser said Chatham has the best lineup in the CCBL.

The results haven’t quite backed up that claim yet, but the A’s talent certainly does. But the unfortunate reality is that it won’t be in Chatham for long. With Parker and Rett Johnson (NC State) set to leave for Team USA in a few weeks, now is the time for Chatham to capitalize on its star-studded lineup.

Last Time They Played:

Chatham enjoyed another offensive explosion when it last met Brewster on July 30, 2025. The Anglers ignited for a 10-0 win — their most recent run-rule victory before Thursday’s win over Cotuit. At the time, the victory helped the A’s stave off elimination from playoff contention, but they eventually missed the postseason for the fourth time in five seasons.

Dallas Baptist’s Will Girardi was dominant in his first Cape Cod Baseball League start, tossing five shutout innings. He got some major help in the second inning, when the A’s offense ignited for seven runs. It allowed the A’s to coast to a run-rule victory after eight innings.
