Game 6 Preview: Chatham at Yarmouth-Dennis
CHATHAM, Mass. — After squandering their opportunity to capture an elusive home win against Hyannis, the Anglers defeated Cotuit 4-2 Thursday, finally capturing a win at Veterans Field in 2025.

Through a majority of the contest, the two teams appeared to be in a Mexican standoff, with neither side establishing much offensive momentum. But once the eighth inning rolled around, the floodgates opened for Chatham. Kettleers reliever Tyler Albanese floundered, struggling with control issues and conceding two runs to hand Chatham its first lead of the game. That two-run cushion proved to be all the A’s needed, as Mason Bixby (TCU/transfer) shut Cotuit down in order to seal the win.

Now, the A’s move away from the friendly confines of Veterans Field, as they head to Red Wilson Field to take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. With both teams sitting at .500, the contest presents a crucial opportunity for either club to secure a winning record for the first time this season.

Here’s everything you need to know about both sides ahead of Chatham’s (2-2-1, East) road contest against Yarmouth-Dennis (2-2-1, East).

Probable Starters

Canada’s finest will make an appearance for the Anglers, as Windsor, Ontario native Tate Carey (Michigan) will be making his Cape Cod Baseball League debut tomorrow against Y-D. With the Wolverines, Carey had a stellar freshman season in 2025, notching a 3.63 ERA in 57 innings. While he started his collegiate career in the bullpen, he impressed with seven shutout innings against Akron in his first career start, and he ended up earning seven starts on the year.

On the other end, Hunter Watkins (Oklahoma State) will toe the rubber for Yarmouth-Dennis in his second start of the season. Watkins struggled for the Cowboys as a sophomore, pitching to the tune of a 5.43 ERA in eleven starts after transferring from Grand Canyon University. However, he impressed in his Y-D debut, pitching 4.2 shutout innings in the Red Sox’s 3-2 loss to Brewster.

Yarmouth-Dennis Players To Watch

Early on, Y-D has found most of its production from unexpected sources, and Georgia Tech second baseman Will Baker is a prime example of that fact. A native of Queensland, Australia, Baker played occasionally for the Yellow Jackets as a freshman, hitting for an .831 OPS in 99 at bats in 2025. But since his arrival on the Cape, he’s been one of Yarmouth-Dennis’ strongest hitters, slugging its only home run of the season and driving in four runs.

While Baker represents a pleasant surprise for the Red Sox, former Maryland shortstop Chris Hacopian stands on the other end of the spectrum. Hacopian starred across his two seasons with the Terrapins, registering a 1.080 OPS in 415 at bats across his Maryland career. Yet, his debut season on the Cape has been marred by a failure to launch, as he’s hit for a paltry .176 average for Yarmouth-Dennis. Against the Anglers, he might be due for a resurgence.

Chatham Players To Watch

After a disappointing cup of coffee in Chatham last season, Daniel Jackson (Georgia) returned to the Anglers for an extended stint in 2025. So far, he’s made the most of his opportunity. Jackson has hit one of the A’s two home runs this season, and he currently leads the Cape with a 1.224 OPS. After driving in two runs and reaching on all of his plate appearances against Cotuit, Jackson has become the Anglers’ most dangerous out.

It would also behoove Anglers fans to keep a close eye on Gavin Gallaher (North Carolina) while he’s in Chatham. Following a 12-hour drive along the East Coast, Gallaher arrived in Chatham on Tuesday, and the Tar Heel third baseman immediately established himself as one of the team’s most imposing presences. After hitting 17 home runs and registering a 1.013 OPS, Gallaher showed out in his Chatham debut, reaching base and scoring twice.

Number To Know: 2.00

Cape Cod features a vast amount of talented arms, with Division I talents lining the rosters of every single club in the CCBL. The Anglers are no exception to that rule, and thus far, their staff has been more dominant than any other team on the Cape.

Through five games, the A’s have allowed just 10 earned runs in 45.0 innings, good for a miniscule 2.00 ERA. That mark ranks first in the CCBL, just ahead of Harwich (2.25). Their WHIP also ranks first in the Cape, as Anglers pitchers have averaged just 1.04 walks and hits per inning pitched. For Chatham to secure a winning record for the first time this season, its pitching will likely be a significant factor in the equation.

Last Time They Played

Heading into the Anglers’ last matchup against Yarmouth-Dennis, Chatham was fresh off a shutout victory over Wareham. On August 1, 2024, the A’s defeated the Gatemen 4-0 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the CCBL East Division.

But the following day against Y-D, the Anglers came out flat, trailing by four runs after the first inning and falling 8-5 to the Red Sox. The loss dropped the Anglers to 0-5 against Yarmouth-Dennis in the 2024 season.
