Glenn Davis Inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame
Chatham A’s alum and former Major League Baseball slugger Glenn Davis was recently inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame 2023 Class.

Davis had a record setting season for the A’s in 1980 and led the team to a first-place finish.

After a freshman season at the University of Georgia, Davis joined the A’s, “not knowing where Cape Cod was.” He went on to hit .377, the second-best batting average in the league. He also finished second in the league in several other offensive categories including runs (45), hits (61), HRs (10) and RBIs (44). Davis was named a Cape Cod Baseball League All Star for the 1980 season. The firstbaseman still holds the A’s/Anglers team records in runs, hits and RBIs.

Davis transferred to Manatee Junior College to gain earlier MLB Draft eligibility. After one season at the junior college level, he was selected as a first-round draft pick by the Houston Astros in 1981. Davis spent 10 years playing in the majors with both the Hoston Astros and Baltimore Orioles. He was an MLB All-Star in 1986 and 1989.

In reflecting back on his summer playing for Chatham, Davis noted how much he enjoyed every aspect of his experience including living with his host family and his job as a painter. Davis considered the summer season as the point where he realized he had the opportunity to chase his childhood dream of playing in Major League Baseball.

Davis was introduced in an emotional speech by his wife of 40 years, Theresa. He remarked how his wife was his constant support system throughout his career and subsequent years.

He joins former A’s teammate Jim Sherman, Manager Ed Lyons and Coach John Schiffner as members of 1980 team who are Hall of Fame inductees.
