The Chatham Anglers host the Falmouth Commodores at Veterans Field for the second game of a home-and-home set to finish out the season series between the two teams. The Anglers have lost three in a row while the Commodores have won four consecutive games, dating back to a 4-2 win over Bourne.

The Anglers and Commodores have similar point totals this season ' 23 and 26, respectively ' but the Anglers are at the bottom of the East Division while the Commodores sit in a playoff spot in the West despite a record below .500. The East Division is top-heavy, with two teams over 30 points, and the Commodores would be in fourth place if the two teams switched divisions.

Probable Starters

Victor Mederos starts on the mound for the Anglers and will face Falmouth for the first time since the season-opener at Guv Fuller Field. He allowed four runs on three hits and issued four walks over 2.1 innings, but the Miami righty has allowed three total earned runs in the four outings since. His one blemish in that time was a one-inning, two-run relief appearance against Brewster, but his appearance was cut short due to fog. Hitters average .167 against him, and he's allowed one walk in each of his appearances since the season-opener.

Tyler Tuthill will be making just his third start this season after coming in relief four times to start the season. His first start was a six-inning, two-hit day against Orleans, holding the Firebirds scoreless in a 1-0 win for the Commodores. But his second outing went differently ' in three innings, he gave up seven hits and five runs. He retired the first six batters he faced before facing eight in the third, and was pulled with no outs in the fourth after allowing two consecutive extra base hits to start the game.

In his bounce-back start, Tuthill has one thing going for him: The Anglers have struggled to hit left-handed pitching all year. With two left-handed relievers last night, Chatham managed one run in five innings after earning three in the first four. A two-hit fifth inning was followed by four more innings with just one hit, a single by Kenny Levari.

Chatham Players to Watch

Kenny Levari had two of Chatham's nine hits last night, and both of them were off left-handed pitchers, despite Levari batting left-handed himself. He arrived in Chatham only a week ago and has made an immediate impact since then. He's recorded at least one hit or RBI in every game he's had an at bat since showing up, and two of his four hits this season have been doubles.

Danny Serretti also had two hits yesterday and has been one of Chatham's most consistent hitters against left-handed pitching this season. The North Carolina switch-hitter ripped a leadoff double yesterday in the first at bat after the Commodores pulled their starter, his first at bat of the day from the right side of the batter's box. His flexibility at the plate and on the field ' Serretti, a natural shortstop, has played multiple infield positions this year ' as well as 11 hits in his last 10 games make him an important asset for the Anglers.

Falmouth Players to Watch

Kristofer Armstrong had two hits last night, his last being a leadoff, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Commodores the win. His 1.087 OPS is the highest on the team, along with a team-leading .316 average and six home runs. Armstrong now has two straight multi-hit games, and three in his last five. He's one of two players in the league with at least 50 at-bats to have a slugging percentage over .600 ' his is .702, 76 points ahead of the second best.

Koldie Kolden got on base a season-high four times yesterday, with three hits and a walk. His batting average hit a season-low at .091 on July 11, but he's had six hits in his last five games, nine in his last 10, and yesterday's performance alone increased his average by 31 to .159, a significant improvement over what it was just a few weeks ago.

Falmouth has the second-highest slugging percentage in the West Division, behind only Bourne at .390. They may be in the middle of the pack in average, .223, but their 27 home runs are the second-most in the league behind Orleans. Additionally 36% of their hits go for extra bases, the highest rate in the league by far.

Last Time They Played

Falmouth and Chatham stayed deadlocked at 4-4 last night from the middle of the fifth inning to the middle of the ninth, and it looked like the two teams would tie yet again after a season-opening 7-7 tie in Falmouth. But Armstrong's deep drive to right walked it off for Falmouth, nullifying the Anglers' nine hits on the night and one of their best offensive performances of the season.
