Game 16 preview: Yarmouth-Dennis at Chatham

Following a postponed game at Falmouth on Sunday due to rain, the Anglers will host Yarmouth-Dennis at Veterans Field starting at 7 p.m.. Chatham's last game was a dominant 6-1 win over Hyannis, highlighted by a four-run third inning and five strikeouts from Ty Madden (Texas).

The Red Sox defeated Brewster, 5-2, behind a 11 hit performance that featured two-run home run from left fielder Andrew Eyster.

Probable pitchers

Kolby Kubichek (Texas) will get the start for the A’s. With one of the best ERAs in the Cape League (0.90 ERA), the right-hander’s lone mishap came in his last appearance against Bourne on June 23. Kubichek allowed four hits and three walks with no strikeouts. In his two appearances prior, he gave up just two hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts.

Austin Vernon (North Carolina Central) is expected to come in relief. His last outing saw six of his eight outs come via the strikeout. Vernon has a 3.52 ERA in 7.2 innings with 15 strikeouts. Jeremy Wu-Yelland (Hawaii) will also pitch on Friday. Though Wu-Yelland didn’t allow an earned run in his last appearance, he walked two batters with the bases loaded against Bourne on June 26.

“I had to pick my guys up and give them a chance to win, keep things locked down.” Wu-Yelland said after the loss. “I didn’t do that, I let them down.”

Carlos Lomeli (St. Mary's) will get the start for the Red Sox. The right-handed pitcher has a 6.75 ERA in 9.1 innings this season.

Players to watch

Alex Toral (Miami) blasted his first home of the season against Hyannis on Friday. Toral has started the season 4-for-22 with three RBIs but has been a constant in the clean-up spot with the absence of Spencer Torkelson (Arizona State).

Kaden Polcovich (Northwest Florida State) has danced around the lineup playing positions all over the infield and outfield. Manager Tom Holliday even joked he’d be comfortable putting him as a catcher. In Polcovich’s last two games, he has four RBIs on three hits. Polcovich’s batting average has hovered around .300 all season, and has only increased in the last few games.

Stat to know — .652

Austin Vernon (North Carolina Central) has gotten more than 65% of his outs this season from the strikeout. He has 15 strikeouts in 23 outs this season.

Last time they played

The Anglers were propelled by four unanswered runs in a 4-2 win over the Red Sox. Ben Ramirez (USC) highlighted the game with his first home run in 441 days, spanning back to his freshman year.
