Chatham, Mass. — Today, we’re taking five minutes in conversation with Jason Turner. Jason is a rising junior at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and is the bullpen catcher for the Anglers this season.
When did you start playing baseball'
Turner: I started playing baseball when I was probably three or four.
You just finished your sophomore year at Saint Anselm. How did you decide to go there — did you think about other schools'
Turner: I was just looking around in the Northeast, and then it was Division II, and a wood bat league — I played wood bat in high school, so I thought it would be a good fit.
Do you feel like you have made improvements to your technique and execution in your time on the Cape'
Turner: Definitely, just because watching these guys play and catching these pitches definitely helps me out. I don’t see this at school, so just watching the guys and working with them, they’ve helped me out a lot — and the coaches too.
What will you take away from this summer'
Turner: The relationships can’t be beat, you know what I mean — hopefully I’ll stay in touch with a lot of these guys over the years. And then just all the skill stuff too, I’ll take back everything I’ve learned about pitching, even hitting, catching and everything.
What’s your favorite major league team and player'
Turner: The Red Sox are my favorite major league team, and [Dustin] Pedroia’s probably my favorite player.
Do you have a favorite meal or food that you like to eat on game days'
Turner: I usually go with a peanut butter sandwich and banana before the game, and drink an iced coffee.
Did you play any other sports growing up'
Turner: I played golf, hockey and baseball in high school, so that was good — it was fun.
Do you have any pregame rituals that you do to get in the zone'
Turner: I call my parents before every game — I talk to them. I’ll either text or call my parents.
Do you have a regular walkout song at school'
Turner: Yeah, I walked out to 22 by Taylor Swift and Hotel Room Service by Pitbull.
The Anglers face the Brewster Whitecaps for the sixth and final time this season at Stony Brook Field, Brewster tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
