Anglers open two-game slate at Brewster tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (6-7) face the Brewster Whitecaps (6-6-1) for the second time this season at Stony Brook Field, Brewster this afternoon. Chatham previously drew a 5-4 victory over the Whitecaps at Veterans Field Saturday.

Last night, six scoreless innings of pitching from starter Dan Hammer (Pittsburgh) fueled the Anglers to an 8-2 victory over the Bourne Braves (7-5). Hammer threw five strikeouts with no walks, before Nick Rand (Massachusetts — Lowell) and RJ Freure (Pittsburgh) combined to finish the game in relief.

Right fielder Jacob Olson (South Carolina) led Chatham’s offense with 3 RBIs and a pair of hits, while center fielder DJ Artis (Liberty) notched one RBI and two hits.

“We did everything that you’re supposed to do,” said manager John Schiffner. “We executed on some small ball, we took advantage of the other team’s mistakes, we got some clutch hits, we got excellent pitching, and all around played good defense.”

Bourne’s Christopher Holba (East Carolina) handed Chatham three earned runs with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings, before Carter Henry (Houston) and Christian Ryder (Georgia) completed the game in relief.

Right-handed pitcher Adam Hill (South Carolina) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Hill last appeared in the team’s June 20 5-3 loss to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (5-7-1), allowing one earned run with one strikeout over 5.0 innings.

Tony Locey (Georgia) will start for the Whitecaps. Locey took Brewster’s June 23 12-6 loss to Cotuit (7-6), handing the Kettleers four earned runs with nine strikeouts over 5.0 innings. He completed his rookie season at Georgia with an ERA of 6.38, throwing 37 strikeouts over 42.1 innings.

Last night, Brewster fell to the Falmouth Commodores (7-7) 7-1, after dropping a game against Bourne 5-3 Monday. The Whitecaps swept the Braves in a doubleheader by tallies of 4-3 and 6-4 Sunday.
