CAA IN MEMORIAM 2018
JAMES DEIGNAN & ARTHUR DUNN
This past winter saw the passing of two former officers of the Chatham Athletic
Association. Jim Deignan served as a director and officer from 1997 through 2009
and Arthur (Art) Dunn served as director and officer from 1998 through 2007,
including two terms as President.
Art’s specialty was soliciting and putting together the business sponsorships for our
annual souvenir yearbook. Under Art’s direction there was a significant increase in
business support for our yearbook. Art also spent many summer mornings signing
up participants at our youth baseball clinics, the gateway to becoming life long
Chatham Angler fans. Art and his wife Carol retired to Chatham from Salem, MA
where he was a guidance counselor with the Salem Public Schools. In addition to
his love of baseball, Art was a member of the Cape Cod Ski Club and enjoyed ice ARTHUR DUNN
skating on frozen ponds and at local rinks.
Jim’s special talent to our Organization was being able to enlist numerous volunteers
each summer to assist at every home game with the selling of 50-50 tickets, the
“pass the hat” collection, and the retrieval of foul balls. Securing volunteers has
always been a difficult task and we’re very grateful Jim had this special talent. Jim
and his wife Bernice retired to Chatham from Woburn, MA after a career in financial
services. An avid golfer, Jim was a frequent presence at Seaside Links. He also loved
boating and spent a great deal of time on the water.
Being military veterans Jim (Coast Guard) and Art (Marine Corps) were both buried
with honors at the National Cemetery in Bourne. The Chatham Athletic Association
is very appreciative to both gentlemen for their generous service to our organization
and for their service to our country. JAMES DEIGNAN
