Notebook: Game 31 @ Hyannis

Chatham, Mass. — Looking to start down the path towards playing solid baseball again, the Chatham Anglers venture to McKeon Park tonight for a matchup with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at 6 p.m.

Hyannis (13-17) enters the contest reeling from two straight losses after falling to Falmouth on Saturday and Brewster on Friday. Despite upending division opponents Bourne and Wareham, the Harbor Hawks have dropped four of their last six games.

Similarly, the Anglers (11-18-1) take the field today in the midst of a four game losing streak, and a seven game winless streak. Chatham’s last victory came on July 6 against Wareham; however, to find the Anglers last road victory, you have to go all the way back to June 22 against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.

In two contests this summer, Hyannis has gone 2-0 against Chatham, outscoring the Anglers 19-2.

At the Plate: In the last three games, Chatham has managed 15 hits. Over a quarter of those base knocks have come off the bat of Sean Bouchard. The UCLA Bruin has reached base seven times on four hits in his last seven at-bats, scoring a team-high three runs in the last week. Though the versatile infielder has been hitting .254 on the season, Bouchard has compiled a .571 batting average in his last four contests and has managed to reach base three other times due to a walk and two hit-by-pitches.

Ford Proctor has lead a faltering Hyannis squad in his last five games, recording a .471 average thanks to eight hits in 17 at-bats. The Rice product is one of six Harbor Hawks to have scored three runs this past week, coming around in three consecutive games. Proctor, a freshman infielder who hits from the left side of the plate, enters tonight’s game on a five-game hitting streak. Eight of Proctor’s 27 hits this summer have come in that five-game span.

On the Rubber: With Kale Breaux becoming the fourth Angler pitcher to be released this week – joining the likes of James Karinchak, Nick Meservey, and Austin Magestro – Parker Rigler (0-1) finds himself a vital part of a thin A’s starting rotation.

Taking the hill today, the Kansas State hurler is winless in two starts and five appearances for Chatham. However, last time out against the first place Harwich Mariners, Rigler turned in a spectacular outing – allowing one run on five hits and striking out five as the Anglers played to a draw with their divisional opponent. In 14 innings pitched this summer, Rigler has compiled a 2.57 ERA, the lowest of any current A’s starter.

Andrew Gonzalez (1-1) makes his seventh start of the season today for Hyannis, looking to build off of a one run, three hit outing against Cotuit on July 10. The Michigan State Spartan has been arguably the second best starter on the Harbor Hawks’ staff, piecing together a 4.08 ERA that trails only Alex Eubanks for lowest on the Hyannis rotation. Gonzalez has averaged just over three strikeouts per game this summer while allowing 13 earned runs on 31 hits.

Down the Road: The Anglers will have Monday off as part of the CCBL’s league wide off-day before returning to action on Tuesday when the host Brewster for a 7 p.m. contest at Veterans Field.
