Schiffner announces Chin as Opening Day starter

Chatham manager John Schiffner announced Monday afternoon that lefty Andrew Chin (Boston College) will be the Anglers’ Opening Day starter in Orleans on Wednesday.

Schiffner said that the team likes to throw a returning player in the first game, and Chin brings the necessary experience having played in Chatham last summer. Chin was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 15th round of the MLB Draft on Sunday, and Schiffner also said that the team isn’t sure how long he’ll be around.

Chin, who’s from Newton, Mass., and attended Buckingham Brown and Nichols High School, had an impressive sophomore season with the Eagles. He started 14 games and had the lowest ERA (3.10) of the team’s three starting pitchers, going 5-2 while striking out 52 hitters in 78.1 innings of work.
