McGee, Anglers Look to Bounce Back Against Bourne
The Chatham Anglers (23-10-1) were dealt their first loss since July 16 on Wednesday, falling to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks 1-0 in strange walk-of fashion.

It was a bad break for us, and a lucky break for them, Manager John Schiffner said. We are already looking past it. We will be fine.

The Anglers will look to rebound from a stalled offensive performance on Wednesday as they return home to take on the Bourne Braves

This will be the fourth and final time that Chatham and Bourne will face off in the regular season. In the last meeting between these two teams, the Anglers pulled out a thrilling 10-7 victory at Doran Park, with a pinch-hit three-RBI double from Sheehan Planas-Arteaga in the ninth inning being the difference.

In their last meeting at Veterans Field, Chatham exploded for five runs in the first inning, and held off Bourne for a 7-5 victory on July 2.

Andrew McGee (Monmouth) will be on the mound for his seventh start of the season, and will look to bounce back from some recent struggles. McGee was one of the best pitchers in the league through his first four starts, holding an impressive 1.23 earned run average.

Over his past two starts, McGee has given up 15 hits and 12 earned runs in the past eight innings pitched.

McGee will look to get back on track against the Braves offense, which ranks second in the league in total hitting with a .264 team batting average.

The Bourne offense is led by Max Pentecost (Kennesaw State), who leads the league among active players in batting with a .371 average. In the last meeting between these two teams, Pentecost went off for four hits and four RBI.

Despite their 1-0 loss on Wednesday, the Anglers still carry a potent offense. Dante Flores (USC) is fifth in the league in hitting among active players with a .349 average, and leads the league in doubles with 12.

Connor Joe (San Diego) went 3-4 in last nights loss, bumping his average to an impressive .331. He leads the team in hits (39) and RBI (20).

Trying to contain the still potent Anglers offense will be Bourne left-hander Kris Gardner (Wichita State).

On the season, Gardner is 0-2 with a 3.50 ERA, but has only allowed one run in his last eight innings pitched.

The game will be nationally televised from Veterans Field on Fox College Sports as a part of Foxs nine game Cape Cod League featured games. Despite the national exposure, Schiffner sees it having no effect on the team.

I dont think the players will notice it, other than seeing an occasional guy on the field or camera, Schiffner said. We will just go out and play our game.

The Anglers are hoping to spoil the Braves playoff clinching celebration for at least one more night. With a win, Bourne will clinch the final playoff spot in the Western Division.

Despite Wednesdays loss, Chatham still holds a comfortable 12 point lead in the Eastern Division. With 10 games left, the Anglers now set their sights on winning their first division title since 2001. Chatham only needs four more wins to clinch at least a share of the title.
