Undefeated Anglers Taking it One Game at a Time
After the Anglers walk-off win against Brewster, their second in a row, Coach John Schiffner tried to put things in perspective for his team in the post-game huddle.

"He told us to feel good about the win but he also told us some adjustments that we had to make," Dante Flores (USC) said. "Overall, we have to keep working and keep winning."

With late-inning heroics in each of Chatham's first three wins, there is definitely excitement around the team, but Schiffner is trying to temper the early season excitement and keep the team focused.

"Its every game. Its a different day, and well come out and play the next game," Schiffner said.

With the win, Chatham has now gained sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division. For Schiffner, these early wins are key.

"It's six points in three games, that's pretty good," Schiffner said. "As guys start coming and the rosters fill out for each team, the competition is going to get better. These early wins are key."

On Sunday, Chatham will travel to play the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (2-2). On the mound in his first start as an Angler will be LHP Matt Gage (Siena). In his sophomore season for Siena, he posted a 6-6 record with a 3.42 ERA, and pitched four complete games in 15 appearances (14 starts). He collected 88 strikeouts and held opponents batting average to .261 in 97.1 innings pitched.

Schiffner is excited to see Gage on the mound, and is hoping to see his "coming out party" this summer.

"He is a good pitcher, great potential. He's one of those pitchers where you hear about his upside a lot," Schiffner said. "He had some really good starts in the spring, and we are hoping that carries over for us."

Chatham leads the league in batting average in the early season, hitting .291 as a team. Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry U) and Josh Eldridge (Old Dominion) lead the league in RBIs.

The Anglers will look to stay unbeaten and improve to 4-0 as they face Yarmouth-Dennis. First pitch is at 5 p.m. Tune into the Anglers Extra Pregame Show at 4:40 p.m. for live coverage with broadcasters Brandon Liebhaber and Keith Zubrow at TRZ Teamline or call 1-800-846-4700, code 3841.
