Anglers shut out Gatemen in season opener
Chatham opened the season again just as they did last year: with a win in Wareham. The Anglers' staff combined for a four hit shutout as the team beat the defending champions by a final of 4-0. It began with Andy McGee (Monmoth) who started for Chatham and struck out nine in five scoreless innings.

Box Score

Game 1: Chatham 4, Wareham 0

Mcgee, who was the 2013 Pitcher of the Year for the NEC conference, dominated the Wareham lineup, scattering three hits and one walk in five shutout innings. The Gatemen never got a man past first-base against Mcgee. Out of the bullpen then followed Ryan Leach (Franklin Pierce) who tossed a scoreless inning of his own. Andrew Chin (Boston College) got the A's first win, pitching the final three innings.

On the offensive side, the Anglers were held scoreless by Wareham starter Sean Newcomb (Hartford), who allowed five hits and walked six in six innings, but Chatham was unable to do anything with it, leaving eight men on base in the first seven innings. The Anglers finally broke through in the eighth inning, scoring all four of their runs. Jimmy Pickens (Michigan State) got the Anglers started had an RBI double. Josh Eldridge (Old Dominion) followed with a bases loaded walk. Finally, center fielder Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry) broke it open with a two out, two strike two-RBI single.

Third baseman Mitchell Gunsolus (Gonzaga) also had a good day at the plate, collecting two hits and three walks in five at-bats. Designated hitter Connor Joe (San Diego) had two hits, a walk, and scored the Anglers first run. Catcher Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern) also had two hits, a walk, and scored on Arteaga's single.

Tomorrow the Anglers will be back at it for their home opener when the Falmouth Commodores visit Veterans Field.
