Angler offense looks to keep building in Hyannis doubleheader

The Chatham Anglers (6-5) and Harbor Hawks (8-3) were originally slated to play a doubleheader on Father’s Day until Mother Nature intervened. Instead, the two squads will play both contests in Hyannis this afternoon. The first game will commence at 5 p.m., and the second will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.

The Angler offense will look to continue to build off the momentum it started in Saturday night’s loss to Bourne. Despite only brining two base runners across home plate, the Chatham bats pounded out eight hits. The hit total was greater than in any other game that week, and several other balls were hit hard but right at the Bourne defense.

“You face good pitching up here every night,” said Angler outfielder and pitcher Trenton Brooks (Nevada). “We need to make sure we take good at-bats and get pitches we can drive.”

The doubleheader will be the first time the Anglers and Harbor Hawks cross paths since July 24th of 2014. Chatham won all four contests against Hyannis during that season, and the last defeat the Anglers suffered at the hands of the Harbor Hawks was July 24th of 2013.

Hyannis will likely try to feed off the energy they generated in their Saturday night game against Harwich. In that contest, Devin Smeltzer (Florida Gulf Coast) became the first Harbor Hawk to throw a no-hitter since 2007.

The effect of Sunday’s rain on either pitching staff is yet to be seen.
