Anglers head west to Cotuit for 5 p.m. contest

The Chatham Anglers (2-1) are packing up their bags and setting out to blaze a trail in the land of the unknown, the “Wild West.” There the will meet the Cotuit Kettleers (3-1) at Lowell Park in Cotuit for a 5 p.m. duel just before sundown.

The expected sheriff for Chatham is the talented young right–hander, Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest). Dunshee was 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 71.2 innings for the Demon Deacons this season. He will have the task or reigning in a tough cast of Cotuit outlaws wanted for a variety of crimes. The catcher, Will Haynie (Alabama), is one of only two Cape Leaguers wanted for stealing multiple balls and depositing them somewhere beyond the city limits. First baseman, Matthew Dacey (Richmond), shortstop Michael Paez (Coastal Carolina), and center fielder Gene Cone (South Carolina) are wanted for less serious offenses, but there is reliable information that they have been littering balls to all fields.

The sheriff will enlist the aid of his fellow agents of justice for the showdown. Trenton Brooks (Nevada) has brought the greatest number of otherwise stranded individuals home this year with two RBIs through three games. Right there with Brooks have been Nate Mondou (Wake Forest) and Aaron Knapp (California), each of whom have handled opposing gunslingers well. Mondou has recorded four hits and Knapp has earned three to his name so far this year.

“I’ve just been trying to stay simple and drive the ball the other way,” said Mondou. Just trying to not get too pull-happy stay on the ball.”

The probable adversary they will meet under the Cotuit sunset is Duncan Robinson (Dartmouth). Robinson was 6-2 with a 2.62 ERA for Dartmouth this year.
