Anglers and Whitecaps postponed due to fog

It’s part of the mystique of Veterans Field. There are few other ballparks like it in that respect.

It’s just unfortunate that it prevented an offical game from taking place there today.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Trenton Brooks (Nevada). “No, really. I couldn’t see anything out there by the time they called the game.”

The Chatham Anglers (2-1) and the Brewster Whitecaps (3-0) got in just over two innings before the game was called for fog. According to league rules, it will be replayed in its entirety. The Anglers' next off-day is Monday.

Though unofficial, the game did offer decent entertainment to fans for about an hour on Friday night.

Brewster drew first blood in the top of the second inning when Chase Livingston (Rhode Island) drove in 3 runs with a bases-clearing knock to left field.

In the bottom of the same inning Chatham responded with three runs of their own. The ACC Player of the Year, Will Craig (Wake Forest), started the inning off with a ground-rule double that the umpire had to run half way into right field to see through the fog and confirm. Aaron Knapp (California) followed Craig with a double of his own to bring the big third baseman home. Zack Short (Sacred Heart) then drew a walk, and Aaron Barnett (Pepperdine) knocked Knapp in with a single. With a runner on third and the infield back, Nick Sciortino (Boston College) got the ball on the ground to bring Short across for the final run of the inning.

Of course, it was all for naught.
