Anglers look for Fifth-Straight Win in Battle of First-Place Teams
It will be a battle of the top two teams at McKeon Park on Wednesday night, as the Chatham Anglers (23-9-1) and the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (19-12-1) face off for the fourth and final time in the 2013 regular season.
The Anglers come into tonight's game with a red-hot offense, but the game against Hyannis should prove to be a pitchers duel.
The Anglers will turn to Tommy Lawrence (Maine) with hopes of another masterful start from the right-hander. In his last start, Lawrence threw six shutout innings against Brewster, only allowing four hits and striking out five.
Lawrence has only allowed two runs all season, and both came from a two-run game-tying home run by Y-D's D.J Stewart (Florida State) on June 25. Since then, Lawrence has yet to allow a run, has struck out 14, and has only walked one in 14.1 innings pitched.
He leads the Anglers starting rotation with a 1.03 earned run average, and opposing batters only hold a .121 average against him.

Nothing has been able to stop the Anglers offense over the past week. During their four-game winning streak, they have scored 49 total runs.
Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern) has broken out over his past two games, collecting five hits, two doubles, and seven RBI in nine at-bats.
J.D Davis (Cal State Fullerton) has been the leader of the Anglers offense lately, hitting an even .500 over the past five games, collecting eight RBI and a home run during that span.
Dante Flores (Southern Cal) has continued his breakout season, hitting for a .421 average with three doubles, three RBI, and five walks over the past week.
This will be Anglers first game since Jul 21, as they experienced their first fog-out on Monday, and had a scheduled off day on Tuesday. The Harbor Hawks are hoping the time off has cooled the Anglers hot offense.
The Harbor Hawks will try to counter the potent Chatham offense with right-hander Jeff Hoffman (East Carolina).
Hoffman is 2-0 on the season, but his 5.19 ERA is deceptive. In his two wins this season, Hoffman has only allowed two runs, eight hits and has struck out 19 over 13.2 innings pitched. Hoffman's high ERA came from his start against Falmouth on July 10, where he allowed eight earned runs in only 3.2 innings pitched.
In his last start, Hoffman was masterful, shutting out the Orleans Cardinals over 7.2 innings, only allowing three hits and striking out 11.
With a win, or a Brewster loss, the Anglers can clinch a spot in the 2013 Cape League playoffs. Chatham still sits in first place with a comfortable 12 point lead over the second-place Harwich Mariners.
For Sedell, clinching a playoff spot won't have an effect on the team's mentality.
"Ya it is awesome to be so close to being in the playoffs, but we just have to keep working and keep playing hard," Sedell said.
