Refreshed Anglers Searching for Win after Off-Day
The Chatham Anglers (15-8-1) went into their day off on a two-game losing streak, as they fell 4-3 to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks on Tuesday, and to the Y-D Red Sox by the score of 6-4 on Wednesday. Despite the losses, the story continues to be how this team battles until the final out.

"We never think we are out of a game," Josh Eldridge (Old Dominion) said. "For us, the game does not end until the final out."

The Anglers played a nine-game stretch in between days off. In that stretch, they went an impressive 6-3, including a five-game winning streak.

Coming off of their off day, and looking to end their two-game slide, the Anglers will make a welcomed trip to Stony Brook Field to face Brewster (8-15). The Whitecaps sit in last place in the Eastern Division, and have not yet beaten Chatham in three attempts.

In Chatham's last meeting with Brewster on July 7, the Anglers used some of their patented late inning magic to come back and beat the Whitecaps on a walk-off single from Landon Lassiter (North Carolina)

In the Anglers last visit to Stony Brook field on June 30, they cruised to a 7-3 victory behind a four RBI performance from Jimmy Pickens (Michigan State),

Schiffner will send his big 6-6 right hander Lukas Schiraldi (Texas) to the mound, who makes his fifth start of the season. In his last start, Schiraldi picked up his first win of the Cape League season, allowing six hits and no earned-runs in five innings pitched, as Chatham defeated Wareham 8-2.

Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry) draws a walk against Y-D on
Wednesday. Walks continue to be the story for the Anglers, as
they have drawn a league leading 134.
On the season, Schiraldi leads Chatham starters with a 1.83 ERA, and has stuck 16 while holding opposing batters to a .237 average in 19.2 innings pitched.

The Anglers still lead the Cape League in total pitching with a combined 2.67 team ERA, and have allowed the fewest runs (80) of any team.

Dante Flores (USC) continues to pace the Angler offense, hitting for an impressive .364 average with 13 RBI in 20 games for Chatham. He also leads the league in doubles with nine this season, and is fourth in the league with a .576 slugging percentage.

Drawing walks continues to be one of the strong points of this years team, as the Anglers have drawn 132 walks this season. Mitchell Gunsolus (Gonzaga) leads the league in bases on balls with 19, Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry U) is second with 17, and Rich Prigatano (Long Beach State) is third with 16.

On the mound for Brewster, looking to help give the Anglers their third-straight loss, will be left-hander Justin Kamplain (Alabama). For the Whitecaps in 2013, Kamplain holds a 1.28 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. In his last start, he gave up eight hits and three runs while walking six batters in Brewster's 4-3 win over Orleans on July 5.

Kamplain was drafted out of high school in the 22nd round by the St. Louis Cardinals, but elected to attend the University of Alabama.

In his sophomore season for the Crimson Tide, Kamplain made 20 appearances (six starts) and held a 4.77 ERA, while striking out 50 in 54.2 innings pitched.

Brewster outfielder Scott Heineman (Oregon) has helped lead the Whitecaps offense, hitting for a .316 average with four RBI and a league-leading 14 stolen bases.

Jose Brizuela (Florida State) has also had an impressive season offensively for the Whitecaps, hitting for a .333 average with 10 RBI in 17 games played.

With only 20 games left in the regular season, the Anglers sit five points ahead in first place in the Eastern Division, and they are looking to make a big run before playoffs.

"We have been playing good all season," Eldridge said. "We have won a lot of games, and hopefully we can make another run."

First pitch at 5 p.m. Tune into the Anglers Extra Pregame Show at 4:40 p.m. for live coverage with broadcasters Brandon Liebhaber and Keith Zubrow at TRZ Teamline or call 1-800-846-4700, code 3841.
