18 Anglers taken in the 2013 Draft
![]() Louisville's Dace Kime ('11-12) was taken in the third round by the Cleveland Indians In the fifth round, with the 156th overall pick, the Detroit Tigers selected Georgia Tech RHP Buck Farmer ('11). After being drafted in the 15th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 draft, Farmer decided to return to Georgia Tech and had a dominant senior season, posting a 2.78 ERA in 17 starts with 122 strikeouts and giving up only 35 earned runs. Pepperdine RHP Scott Frazier ('12) was taken in the sixth round (168th overall), by the Chicago Cubs. In 2012, Frazier posted a 4.97 ERA in only 12.2 innings pitched, giving up seven earned runs and striking out 10. For Pepperdine in 2013, Frazier had a 4.06 ERA with 83 strikeouts, and was an ALL-WCC honorable mention recipient. UCLA infielder Pat Valaika (12) was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the ninth round (259th overall). As an Angler, Valiaka posted a .258 batting average with 12 runs and 16 RBI. In the 9th round (286th overall), the Washington Nationals selected Virginia Tech RHP Jake Joyce (12). As an Angler in 2012, Joyce posted a 3.37 ERA, striking out 35 and only allowing seven earned runs in 18.2 innings pitched. During his senior season at Virginia Tech, Joyce posted a 7-1 record in 30 appearances, allowing 29 earned runs and striking out 56. The Rays took another Angler in the 14th round (428th overall), when they chose High Point RHP Jaime Schultz ('12). Schultz posted a 2.82 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched for the Anglers, striking out 40 and only allowing seven earned runs. University of San Diego RHP Michael Wagner (12) will join his college teammate Kris Bryant in Chicago, as the Cubs selected Wagner in the 15th round (438th overall). Wagner posted an impressive 1.57 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched for the Anglers. He was an All-Star for the CCBL's Eastern Division. The Chicago White Sox selected Louisville OF Adam Engel ('12) in the 19th round (573rd overall). Engel batted .229 with 25 runs scored, 16 stolen bases and 14 RBI in 41 games for the Anglers in 2012. In the 25th round (753rd overall), the Chicago White Sox selected Southern Hew Hampshire RHP Alex Powers (11- 12). In 2012, the Brewster native posted a 1.68 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched for the Anglers. The Pittsburgh Pirates took Maine infielder Michael Fransoso ('12) in the 27th round (809th overall). During his junior season, Fransoso batted .352 with 20 stolen bases and 49 RBI for Maine. He was named a Louisville Slugger All-American. The entire list of Anglers taken in the 2013 draft is below.
