Chatham Travels to Harwich for Possible Playoff Preview
On Friday night, Chatham (18-20-1) will journey to Whitehouse Field to face the Harwich Mariners (25-14) for the fourth time this season. With a 7-3 record in their last 10 games and 50 points of the season, the Mariners have a six point lead over the Orleans Firebirds for first place in the East Division. In their four contests against Harwich this season, the Anglers have a 2-2 record, winning 5-3 on July 6, losing 4-3 on July 7, prevailing 4-2 on July 13 and falling 7-3 on July 21.

Entering game 40 of the regular season, Chatham is riding high. On Thursday night, the Anglers defeated the Brewster Whitecaps 4-2. In a game with major playoff implications, Chatham was able to emerge victorious and increase their lead over the Whitecaps to eight points for the East's fourth and final playoff spot. High Point's Jamie Schultz (2-0, 3.26 ERA) earned the win for the Anglers (1.2IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 2K). Despite totaling seven hits as a team, Chatham got some much needed production from Virginia Tech's Chad Morgan, who went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. With the game tied at two in the bottom of the eighth, Morgan smashed a two-run double into deep left field to secure the win. The Anglers' other two runs came from Maine's Alex Calbick, who went 1 for 4 with a solo home run and San Diego's Louie Lechich, who went 3 for 4 with an RBI single.

Making his fifth start of the summer, Maine's Tommy Lawrence (2-1, 3.38 ERA) is slated to man the rubber for Chatham. Lawrence was given a no-decision in his last outing against Brewster on July 27 (6.2IP, 8H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K). In 32 innings pitched, Lawrence has recorded 30 strikeouts and has issued five walks.

A reliever for most of the season, Georgia Tech's Cole Pitts (0-0, 11.57 ERA) will make his first start of the season for the Mariners. Pitts received a no-decision in his last appearance on July 14 against Y-D (0.1IP, 3H, 3ER, 0BB, 1K). In seven appearances this summer, the freshman has only three scoreless outings.
