Anglers to Take on Cotuit for Final Time
On Monday July 30, the Chatham Anglers (17-18-1) will travel to Lowell Park to take on the Cotuit Kettleers (23-12) at 5 p.m. Chatham still has a six point (three win) lead over the Brewster Whitecaps for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division. Cotuit currently possesses the best record in the Cape League and has a firm grip on first place in the West with a 12 point (six win) lead over the Falmouth Commodores. In three games against the Kettleers this season, the Anglers have an 0-3 record, falling 3-0 on June 15, losing 11-5 on June 24 and coming up short 2-1 on July 20.

Despite getting 10 hits on Sunday night, Chatham could not get past the Wareham Gatemen, who pulled out a 6-2 victory at Veterans Field. Stetson's Kurt Schluter (2-2, 4.83 ERA) was given the loss (4.1IP, 6H, 5ER, 4BB, 5K). The Anglers received another strong performance at the dish from Boston College's Tom Bourdon, who went 2 for 5 with an RBI double in the fourth. California's Andrew Knapp tallied Chatham's other run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth, giving him 19 RBI for the summer, the most of any Angler player.

Pepperdine's Aaron Brown (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will make his first start of the season for Chatham. A two-way player, Brown has thrived on the hill in six appearances out of the bullpen for the Anglers and has allowed only two earned runs, both coming against Hyannis on July 2. In 10 innings pitched in Chatham, Brown has recorded 10 strikeouts and issued seven walks.

With no probable pitcher made public, Cotuit's starter for Monday is still to be determined. In 2012, the Kettleers have a 4.10 team ERA, the fourth best mark in the Cape League. Although Cotuit has benefited from the production of starters such as Vanderbilt's Kevin Ziomek (3-0, 1.27 ERA), the team's strongest asset lies in Notre Dame's Dan Slania (1-0, 1.82 ERA), who leads the league in saves with eight.
