Anglers Battle Brewster for Final Playoff Spot
After enjoying an off- day on Thursday, the Chatham Anglers (17-17) will make a quick trip down Route 6 to take on the Brewster Whitecaps (14-19) at Stony Brook Field at 5 p.m. A game with major playoff implications, Chatham holds a six point (three win) advantage over Brewster for the fourth and final spot in the Eastern Division's postseason picture. The Whitecaps are coming off a 4-3 victory against Bourne on Thursday night.

The Anglers are also fresh off a win, defeating the Y-D Red Sox 8-6 on Wednesday night. Virginia Tech's Jake Joyce (2-0, 2.76 ERA) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his second win of the season. Louisville's Adam Engel was the hero at the plate for Chatham, going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Boston College's Tom Bourdon and Maine's Mike Fransoso also had productive nights at the plate, recording two hits apiece and both notching RBI singles.

With the team's spirits high, Fransoso and company will look to handle the task at hand against Brewster on Friday evening.

"We're just going to go into this next game and hopefully roll in with the wind on our back," said Fransoso. "We're just going to continue to do things the right way and hopefully get a win."

The Anglers will send Maine's Tommy Lawrence (2-1, 3.20 ERA) to the mound against Brewster for his fourth start of the season. Lawrence suffered a loss in his last outing against Harwich on July 21, giving up five earned runs on nine hits in five and a third innings. In the sophomore's three starts this season, Lawrence has struck out a minimum of five batters.

Brewster is scheduled to start Washington's Austin Voth (1-2, 4.15 ERA). Voth got his second loss of the summer in his last outing against Y-D on July 20, allowing five earned runs on three hits and four and two thirds innings and issuing eight walks.
