Chatham Battles Braves for Fourth and Final Time
Chatham (16-16) remains at Veterans Field on Tuesday for its fourth game against Bourne (12-19). The Anglers possess a six-point (three win) advantage over Brewster for the fourth playoff spot. Chatham faces a Braves team that has won three games in a row.

The Anglers ended their five-game losing streak on Monday, besting the Orleans Firebirds 4-2. Stetson's Kurt Schluter (2-1, 3.95 ERA) notched his second win of the season (6IP, 2ER, 5H, 0BB, 8K).

"Kurt was hitting his spots with his fastball," said catcher John Martinez (Michigan State). "Kurt did a great job with that last night and it set up his off-speed pitches perfectly."

In addition to calling a strong game behind the plate, Martinez provided some offense of his own, clubbing a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth to give Chatham a 3-2 lead.

"I got a good pitch to hit," he said. "Luckily the wind was blowing pretty hard in right field and I put it right out there."

Of all the joy that the Anglers' nine hits on Monday brought, few people were happier than hitting coach Pat McGee.

"I thought we made some great adjustments after the fifth inning last night," said McGee. "We stayed off breaking balls in the dirt and had much better at-bats."

On Tuesday, Boston College's Eric Stevens (1-3, 7.11 ERA) is scheduled to start his fifth game of the season for the Anglers. Due to a rain-out on July 18, Stevens came out of the bullpen in his most recent appearance against Orleans on July 19 (3IP, 0ER, 3H,1BB, 2K).

"Eric did a great job against Orleans in relief last week," said McGee. "It was a tough situation and he threw very well. Tonight he needs to minimize his mistakes against Bourne. I look forward to seeing him out there."

Bourne will hand the ball to Ohio State's Jaron Long (1-0, 3.91 ERA). Long was given a no-decision in his last outing against Brewster on July 16, (7IP, 2ER, 5H, 1BB, 3K).
