Anglers and Firebirds Battle for Second Time on Independence Day
On Wednesday night, the Chatham Anglers (8-8) will finish their 2012 Fourth of July Celebration at Eldredge Park against the Orleans Firebirds (13-3). The Firebirds emerged victorious in the first matchup between these two teams on Tuesday night, scoring three runs in the ninth inning to win the game 5-4. Orleans currently leads the Eastern Division with 26 points on the season while Chatham has 16 points.

San Diego right-hander Michael Wagner (1-1, 1.59 ERA) will be on the rubber for the Anglers. Wagner received his first victory of the season in his last start on June 28 against Bourne, giving up two earned runs and recording two strikeouts in five innings of work. The Las Vegas native has allowed two runs on nine hits in three appearances this season and has a total of ten strikeouts. The sophomore will face an Orleans lineup that leads the league in runs scored with 101 and is second in RBI with 87.

Dartmouth southpaw Kyle Hunter (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will man the hill for the Firebirds. The junior has two no-decisions in both his starts this season and surrendered four earned runs on five hits in his last outing against Hyannis on June 27 to go with six strikeouts. Surrounded by a bevvy of talented pitchers, Hunter is part of an Orleans staff that leads the league in saves with six and has a 2.82 team ERA, the lowest in the Cape League.

Chatham enters Wednesday's game batting .220 as a team. The Anglers are now tied with Orleans for the league lead in walks with 64 on the season. Left fielder Aaron Brown (Pepperdine) leads Chatham in batting average, hitting .281 on the season. Virginia Tech third baseman and designated hitter Chad Pinder is still tied for the league lead in RBI with 16 and center fielder Adam Engel (Louisville) tops the league in stolen bases with 11. Anglers catcher John Martinez (Michigan State) has two home runs in his last three games and has recorded a hit in four out of his last seven games.
