Anglers at Braves, Take Three
The Chatham Anglers (6-4) will make their third attempt to play at Doran Park against the Bourne Braves (2-8) Thursday at 6 p.m. The originally schedule matchup for June 23 was washed out in the fourth inning, as was the second try on June 25. Rainouts in the Cape League are postponed (not suspended) so Thursday's game will be restarted. The Anglers are coming off a 6-4 loss on Wednesday evening to the Brewster Whitecaps (5-6) and are hungry to regain their momentum after two straight losses. Chatham currently sits in the middle of the Eastern Division with 12 points on the season.

The Anglers will send right-hander Michael Wagner (0-1, 0.00 ERA) (San Diego) to the hill Thursday evening. Wagner was highly effective in his first start of the season against Falmouth on June 19, giving up no earned runs in five innings and fanning six batters. The recently converted starter currently leads a Chatham pitching staff with a 3.44 team ERA and will go up against a Braves team batting .219 collectively.

"Michael's a very good pitcher, so we feel good every time he's on the mound," said assistant coach Derek Sullivan. "He's got great numbers coming off his college season and he's looked good in his first two outings."

Bourne, who has dropped seven games in a row, will start southpaw Chris Matulis (0-0, 0.00 ERA) (Central Florida). Matulis will make his summer debut on Thursday evening. The imposing lefty had a superb spring for the Knights with a 7-0 record and a 3.68 ERA to go along with 62 strikeouts.

The Anglers enter Thursday with a .225 team batting average. Plagued by a series of slow starts, Chatham will look to be aggressive in the early innings against a pitching staff that has a 5.56 ERA through ten games this season. The Anglers are currently led at the plate by third baseman Chad Pinder (Virginia Tech) and left fielder Aaron Brown (Pepperdine), who are hitting .343 and .308 respectively. Chatham will be eager to replicate its previous effort against the Braves where the team totaled 11 hits in a 9-3 victory at Veterans Field.
