by Dan D'Uva, 12-22-2011

Chatham's Pre-Season All-Americans Collegiate Baseball newspaper has released its Louisville Slugger 2012 pre-season All-American teams which include Chatham Anglers Kris Bryant, a third baseman from San Diego, and Buck Farmer, a right-handed pitcher from Georgia Tech. Kris Bryant (San Diego) and Buck Farmer (Georgia Tech) named pre-season All-Americans

Bryant, entering his sophomore season with the Toreros, garnered second-team honors. In 2011, the Las Vegas, NV native was the West Coast Conference's Co-Player and Co-Freshman of the Year and a first-team Freshman All-American. His .365 batting average was tops in the WCC and his nine home runs were tied for the conference lead. He drove in 36 runs, scored 57 runs and produced a .599 slugging percentage with a .482 on-base percentage. The 6-5, 215-lb. right-handed hitter started each of USD's 53 games, including all 21 conference matchups during which he put together a 15-game hitting streak.

On the Cape in 2011, Bryant played third and first base for the Anglers and hit .233 (29-for-130) with 16 RBIs, six doubles, two triples and three homers.

Farmer, a third-team selection, has a 3.09 career ERA through two seasons at Georgia Tech. He transitioned from a predominantly bullpen role in 2010 to the Sunday starter job in 2011. As a sophomore, the 6-3½, 228-lb. righty posted a 2.82 ERA with an 11-3 record in 16 starts including two complete games. In more than 108 innings, Farmer struck out 106 hitters while walking 31. He was named second team All-ACC, winning as many Atlantic Coast Conference games as any other pitcher, eight, including seven consecutive. In two career NCAA tournament appearances - one complete game and one seven-inning relief appearance - Farmer has allowed only three earned runs in 16 innings with 16 strikeouts and two walks.

The Conyers, GA native started four games for Chatham in 2011, earning a 2-1 record. He allowed 13 earned runs in 21 innings, a 5.57 ERA, striking out 17 and walking four.
