Anglers Swept in Doubleheader
The biggest crowd of the year showed up to Veterans Field on Sunday but witnessed an Anglers squad which couldn't find the timely hits. After dropping a pair, Chatham fell to 3-6-1 on the season.

An afternoon and an evening matchup with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks netted two losses for the Anglers. Chatham was two-hit in the first game and fell 5-1, but mustered eight hits only to produce just two runs in the nightcap. A comeback effort fell just short for the second consecutive day and Hyannis completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory.

Chad Gallagher (Marist) got the start for the Anglers in game one. Gallagher (1-1) gave up five runs on a dozen hits across four innings pitched. In ten innings of work this season, the Massachusetts native has struck out four, walked none, and holds a 4.22 ERA.

The win belonged to Dylan Floro (Cal State Fullerton), who drove the action on the bump for just over five innings. The Harbor Hawks' righty gave up just a single hit but walked five. In the sophomore's first start, he earned his second decision (both wins) of the 2011 campaign.

Dietrich Enns (Central Michigan) finished off game one on the mound. Enns faced just one batter when the Anglers squared off with the Harbor Hawks in Hyannis on June 14th but earned the win in that contest.

Eight of the starting nine Harbor Hawks batters had at least one base knock in a 12-hit effort to open Sunday's action. Austin Elkins (Dallas Baptist) doubled and belted his first home run in an afternoon which saw him notch three hits in four at-bats.

Beau Amaral (UCLA) led off the game with a walk and came around to score Chatham's only run. The team achieved only two hits, which came off the bats of Brent Hopkins (Rhode Island) and Joe Sever (Pepperdine).

Once again, the Anglers punched in a run to start their half of the first. This time around, the lead would hold up until the midway point of the contest.

Defensive issues continued to hinder the Anglers. The leader board flipped when a pair of unearned runs crossed in the fourth to put Hyannis on top. Cal Towey (Baylor) doubled off Dace Kime (Louisville) with two runners on base and scored both.

Kime got through the fifth and gave up just one earned run. In his fourth outing of the year, Kime gave up his first earned run and received his first loss. Maine product Jeff Gibbs and San Jose State fireballer Zack Jones each pitched to round out game two.

Andrew Strenge (Cincinnati) moved to 1-0 in his longest outing of the year. Entering play, Strenge had faced three batters in the CCBL, but added five complete to his resume as the evening starter. Strenge fanned six, gave two free passes and allowed one earned run.

Chatham is on a three-game skid which started in Bourne with a 6-5 loss before dropping both ends of the doubleheader at Veterans Field. The Anglers get an off day tomorrow to reset before a 5 p.m. ET start at Red Wilson Field on Tuesday. The road game will be Chatham's first meeting with Yarmouth-Dennis, last year's regular season winners in the Eastern Division.
