Chatham Anglers

Game 1 Summary and Interviews -- CCBL Story

After winning Game 1 in 11 innings, the Chatham A's return home to Veterans Field with a chance to clinch the East Division Championship. Chatham will send another Tarheel to the mound in Robert Woodard. The righty finished his year at UNC at 8-0, then pitching to a 5-1 record in his 2005 All-Star summer with the A's. Woodard appeared against Orleans out of the bullpen in Game 44. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits the one inning he pitched. Woodard's first outing against Orleans was a start at Eldredge Park earlier this summer, a Chatham victory 4-2. In 2004, Woodard notched a save in Orleans in the season's final game knocking Orleans out of a playoff spot.

Passed balls were again a storyline between Chatham and Orleans, but unlike during the regular season, the miscues were committed by the Cardinals. Two in the top of the 11th helped the A's score the lead runs. The three additional errors the Cardinals committed clouded the boxscore from several outstanding plays in the field from Steve Singleton at shortstop. However, Chatham continued its offensive success from the regular season into the playoffs, picking up 11 base hits while A's starter Andrew Miller did not give up a hit until the 6th inning.

Game 2 will be played at Chatham's Veterans Field at 7pm.
