Red Sox End Chatham's Five Game Winning Streak

by Anglers Media Team, 07-30-2010

Red Sox End Chatham's Five Game Winning Streak Yarmouth-Dennis remained undefeated against Chatham on the 2010 season, besting the Anglers at Red Wilson Field Friday night by a score of 7-5, snapping Chatham's five-game winning streak. The Anglers' record now stands at 17-19-1 which keeps them in fifth in the Eastern Division and, as of now, out of the playoffs.

Y-D got on the board first in the bottom half of the first after a pair of lead off singles by center fielder Caleb Ramsey (Houston) and second baseman Tyler Hanover (LSU), before a fielding error by Chatham second baseman Dan Paolini (Siena) allowed Ramsey to score.

The Anglers would fight back in the next half inning after Rick Oropesa (USC) led things off with a single. Reaching second on a passed ball, he would be advanced to third on a single by center fielder Brian Humphries (Pepperdine). After a walk by Paolini, Jason Martin (San Jose St.) would drive in both Oropesa and Humphries with a two-run single. A single in the next at-bat by right fielder Beau Amaral (UCLA) would plate Paolini and give Chatham a 3-1 lead.

The Red Sox would pull within a run in the third with an RBI double by first baseman Jordan Ribera (Fresno St.), and take a commanding lead in the fourth, sending nine batters to the plate. Catcher Beau Taylor (Central Fla.) was the first of four consecutive batters to reach after third baseman Danny Muno (Fresno St.) flew out to left to lead off the inning. Matt Vinson (Arkansas), Ramsey and Hanover all singled after Taylor's walk, with Hanover's hit driving in a run. An RBI sacrifice fly in the next at-bat by shortstop Joe Panik (St. John's) would chase starting pitcher Joe Zimmerman (New Orleans), who allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts through 3 2/3 innings.

Kenny Monteith (Winthrop) came on in relief with two outs and runners on first and second and allowed both to score on consecutive singles by Ribera and designated hitter Matt Watson (Boston College) to put Yarmouth-Dennis up 6-3.

Chatham would pull within two in the seventh, sending eight batters to the plate. A leadoff walk by shortstop Riley Reynolds (Vanderbilt) would chase reliever Matt Iannazzo (Pittsburgh), with Anthony Desclafani (Florida) allowing a walk to Martin, the first batter he faced. After striking out the next two batters, Desclafani gave up a run on a hit by third baseman Mark Ginther (Oklahoma St.). After a walk by Oropesa, catcher Joe Pavone (UConn) drove in a run on another single to bring the Anglers within a run.

Y-D would tack on one more run in the bottom half of the frame off of reliever Garrett Davis (UNC) who allowed a pair of singles to lead off the inning, followed by an intentional walk of Taylor to load the bases. A walk in the next at-bat by Ramsey scored the seventh and final run for the Red Sox.

Chatham would send three men to the plate in the top of the eighth, retired in order by Desclafani, before the game was called due to darkness.

The Anglers are back in action Saturday night, returning to Veterans Field to take on the visiting Cotuit Kettleers in a 7pm start.
