Three-Run First Leads Mariners Past Anglers
Sunday afternoon's loss to Harwich was the seventh in a row for the Anglers, with the Mariners pulling out a 5-0 victory at Veteran's Field. Chatham's record now sits at 12-17-1, bringing up the rear in the Eastern Division. Starting right hander Mike Dennhardt (Boston College) was saddled with his third consecutive loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts through five innings of work.

Dennhardt surrendered three of those runs in the first inning after Harwich center fielder Taylor Dugas (Alabama) doubled with one out and was brought home in the next at-bat after a slow roller to Chatham first baseman Rick Oropesa (USC) was tossed wide to Dennhardt covering first, allowing Harwich shortstop Levi Michael (UNC) to reach. A double in the next at-bat by Pratt Maynard (NC State) advanced Michael to third, followed up by a pair of RBI singles by catcher Craig Manuel (Rice) and right fielder Brian Goodwin (UNC) to put the Mariners up 3-0.

Harwich would increase their lead in the fourth inning with Dennhardt still on the mound after Goodwin walked to lead off the inning. John Hicks (UVA) reached on a 5-4 putout in the next at-bat to erase Goodwin from the base paths, then after a strikeout to retire Steven Proscia (UVA), shortstop Taylor Motter (Coastal Car.) reached on a throwing error by Chatham shortstop Joe DePinto (USC) that allowed Hicks to score.

The Mariners would tack on one more run in the eighth off of right handed reliever Greg Larson (Florida) in his third inning on the mound. A second error by DePinto allowed Manuel to reach to lead off the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Goodwin to advance Manuel to second. Two batters later, Proscia would single to score Manuel, putting Harwich up 5-0 for the eventual victory.

The Anglers remain at Veteran's Field Monday night, welcoming the Bourne Braves to town for a makeup of a game suspended earlier in the season due to weather. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm, with the broadcast beginning at 6:40pm with the Anglers Extra Pregame Show.
