Longoria Elected to Start in 2010 MLB All-Star Game
For the second consecutive season, Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria (Chatham '05) has been elected a starter for the American League All-Star team. Longoria received just shy of four million votes to beat out Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. Through July 7, Longoria is hitting .296 with 13 home runs and 61 runs driven in for the Rays.

An All-Star in each of his three major league seasons, the Downey, CA native won the All-Star Final Vote in 2008, his rookie season. Later that year, Longoria was selected as the American League Rookie of the Year while also leading the Rays to their first appearance in the World Series hitting 6 home runs and driving in 13 runs in only 16 postseason games.

Longoria was named the Cape Cod Baseball League's Most Valuable Player during his lone season in Chatham when he hit .299 with 8 home runs and a league-leading 35 runs driven in.

The 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday July 13th at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
