Brewster Pitching Silences Chatham Bats in 3-1 Win
Another loss for the Anglers Monday night despite another outstanding effort by a Chatham starting pitcher, as the boys in blue fell to Brewster 3-1 at Veteran's Field. The Anglers were only able to put four runners on base, and mustered up only three hits against a Whitecaps staff that now holds a 2.12 ERA, the lowest in the league. Chatham starter Mike Dennhardt (Boston College) rolled through eight innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven, but gave up a solo home run to Brewster right fielder Chris Ellison (Oklahoma) to lead off the second inning, and allowed another run to come across in that same inning after two errors by Chatham shortstop Stephen Perez (Miami). The Anglers' record stands at 11-8-1, third best in the Eastern Division.

Dennhardt and Brewster starter Andrew Lubinsky (Minnesota) both looked solid through the first inning, with Lubinsky retiring the side in order to close out the frame. Dennhardt came on to start the second inning and gave up the aforementioned solo home run to Ellison, his second in just two appearances with the Whitecaps this season. After striking out catcher Jeremy Schaffer (Tulane) in the next at-bat, designated hitter Tyler Ogle (Oklahoma) reached on Perez's first error of the inning. A ground out by second baseman Kirk Singer (Long Beach St.) advanced Schaffer to second, and another error by Perez on a loop fly ball by left fielder Cohl Walla (Texas) in the next at-bat allowed Ogle to score just ahead of a throw to second to retire Walla and end the inning.

Lubinsky shut down the Anglers' order through the fourth, allowing just one base runner on a hit by Chatham second baseman Riley Reynolds (Vanderbilt) in the third. Lubinsky came on to start the fifth, and gave up a solo home run to first baseman Aaron Westlake (Vanderbilt), who was hobbled in the at-bat after fouling a ball off of his right foot, to lead off the inning.

Dennhardt got through his eight innings of work, and yielded to reliever Kevin Berry (New Orleans) to start the ninth. Berry looked good in the early stages of his outing, striking out Brewster first baseman Taylor Ard (Mt. Hood Comm. Coll.) before allowing a double by Ellison. After a strikeout in the next at-bat, Danny Oh (Cal-Berkeley) came on to pinch hit for Ogle, and brought Ellison around to score with an RBI single to give Brewster the 3-1 lead, and eventual victory.

The Anglers get Wednesday off before heading to Bourne for the first time this season to meet with the Braves in a 6pm start.
