With autumn in full swing, the Chatham Athletic Association has used the season to begin needed improvements to Veterans Field. Thanks to a $150,000 grant from the Yawkey Foundation, the Association was able to begin several key projects. First, the entire playing surface will be renovated. The outfield will be re-graded, and a new layer of turf put down. This will allow much easier maintenance of the field. A brick kneewall will be built, stretching the entire length of the backstop from the third base dugout to first base dugout. Finally, new safety poles, capable of supporting taller safety netting, will be installed. These new features will enhance the safety of both fans and children on the playground.

CAA President Peter Troy said, "The Chatham Athletic Association is most fortunate to have been awarded a field improvement grant of $150,000 by the Yawkey Foundation. Brad Klaucke has taken the leadership role of working with the field contractor. Penny and Andy Ruddock are also much involved in all aspects of the project. We are also most fortunate to have daily assistance from Robbie Grenier"

All construction is expected to be finished well before the Anglers 2009 season gets underway in June.
