Game 29 Preview: Chatham at Bourne

Chatham (6-15-7) ' which is the league's only team to yet to eclipse 20 points ' will face Bourne (12-10-6) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Doran Park. The Anglers are winless in two matchups with the Braves, losing once at home and once on the road.

Probable Pitchers

Owen Stevenson (San Francisco) will make his first appearance with Chatham after being activated Sunday. The right-hander compiled a 4.57 ERA in the spring. He didn't overwhelm hitters, punching out 49 batters over 69 innings.

Seth Keener, another right-hander, is set to make his second start of the season with Bourne. Keener has struck out nine and walked seven over 15 innings to pair with a 3.00 ERA. His best appearance came on June 29 against Harwich, when he blanked the Mariners and allowed one hit over the game's final 4.1 innings.

Chatham Players to Watch

Jack Rubenstein (Georgia Tech) has gone 3 for 7 since joining the Anglers on June 6. The catcher has also drawn a walk and been hit by a pitch twice, raising his on-base percentage to .600 over his first week of play.

Caden Grice (Clemson) has continued his hot stretch, collecting six hits over his past six games. Grice has three extra-base hits over his past four games, including his team-leading fourth home run, which he belted to deep center at Veterans Field on Wednesday.

Bourne Players to Watch

Matt Shaw is second in the league in batting average, hitting .350 this summer. In addition to leading the Braves with four home runs, he also paces the team with 12 stolen bases. Shaw went 3 for 5 with a double against Chatham on July 1.

Christopher Brito belted his third home run of the season on Wednesday and has recorded a hit in each of his past three games. Brito has rivaled Cooper Ingle (Clemson) with his plate discipline, drawing 20 walks to Ingle's league-leading 21.

Stat to Know ' 10

Chatham has committed 10 errors over its past six games. Coupled with the increase in errors has been the Anglers' lack of control over the basepaths, which has consistently burnt them. Chatham conceded six stolen bases and allowed two unearned runs in its 7-3 loss to Hyannis on Wednesday.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth in a 3-2 loss to Bourne on July 1. Trailing by a run and with Matt Hogan (South Carolina), Grice, and Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) occupying the bases, Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) and Jake DeLeo (Georgia) each flew out to end the game.

DeLeo provided the Anglers with their only score, launching a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.
