Game 16 Preview: Chatham at Orleans

Chatham (4-9-2) has faced every CCBL team this season except for Orleans (6-7-2), but the Anglers will check off the Firebirds at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eldredge Park. The matchup comes on the heels of the Anglers' 2-0 loss to Brewster on Tuesday, which pushed Chatham's record on the road to 0-7-1.

Miller allowed one run over his first three innings against the Kettleers before his outing went south in the fourth inning. The left-hander has allowed six hits and struck out 13 over 9.1 innings this season.

Bryce Warrecker has appeared in four games but will make his first start of the season against the Anglers. Warrecker's longest outing lasted 2.1 innings, a length he's accomplished twice. The right-hander has give up six hits ' all singles ' over 6.1 innings.

Cooper Ingle (Clemson) is batting .212 but has drawn 11 walks ' the most on the Anglers and second-most in the league. Ingle has worked at least one walk in each of his last six games. Three of Ingle's seven hits have gone for doubles.

Dominic Tamez (Alabama) has logged a hit in each of his past three games, going 3 for 8 with a double and a walk. Tamez has already surpassed his 2021 hit total with the Anglers.

Orleans Players to Watch

Travis Honeyman leads all qualified hitters with a .386 batting average, 33 points higher than the next-closest player. Honeyman batted .329 with Boston College through 41 games in the spring and has recorded six multi-hit games this summer.

Luke Keaschall is one of five players with three home runs, tying the right-hander for the second-most in the league. Keaschall has coupled his power with strikeouts, punching out 18 times in 15 games. Still, he's hitting .264 as the end of June nears.

Stat to Know ' 12

Orleans has hit a league-leading 12 home runs, with Keaschall, Honeyman and Kevin Sim each contributing three to the total. In a stark contradiction, the Firebirds have scored the fewest runs in the league with 39, averaging 2.6 runs per game. Chatham is tied for the second-fewest runs scored with 41.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers defeated the Firebirds 3-2 on Aug. 1, 2021, behind a pair of home runs and Cy Nielson's (BYU) impressive start on the mound. Nolan McLean put Chatham ahead early with a solo home run in the first inning before Tamez extended the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run.

Nielson pitched five-plus innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out three in his first start with the Anglers. Bryce Osmond followed out of Chatham's bullpen, finishing the game with four innings in which he ceded one run ' which was unearned.
