Game 12 Preview: Brewster at Chatham

The Anglers dropped their fourth straight game in a 3-2 loss to Yarmouth-Dennis on Friday. They've yet to get into double-digit with hits, averaging 5.75 hits during this last winless streak. Now, Chatham heads back to Veterans Field, facing Brewster for the second time this season. before heading back on the road tomorrow.

Probable Pitchers

Cy Nielson (BYU) will start for the Anglers, returning to Chatham this year after posting a 6.46 ERA in eight games last season. Nielson didn't get many opportunities to start in 2022, pitching in 33.2 innings with a 3.21 ERA. He last started against Harwich, allowing four hits and two runs. But he came in to relieve Jacob Watters (West Virginia) in the second matchup of the Wareham doubleheader, letting up just one hit.

Jackson Nezuh will get the ball for the Whitecaps after pitching in one other game this season. He recorded six strikeouts, allowing one hit in four innings in Brewster's 4-1 loss to the Gatemen. Nezuh pitched in 15.1 innings at Florida State in 2022, recording an 8.22 ERA.

Chatham Players to Watch

Chuck Ingram (Wichita State) notched his first hit of the season two games ago, finding offensive success again versus the Red Sox in with a single. He rounded the bases for one of the Anglers two runs, striking out twice. Ingram recorded 72 hits in 2022, including 14 home runs.

Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) had also struggled recently, going hitless in 20 at-bats. He broke that streak with a single to center field against Yarmouth-Dennis, bringing in one run two games before that against Bourne. Riggio had four home runs in five games during this season's NCAA Tournament.

Brewster Players to Watch

Grayson Tatrow has a team-high .313 batting average, recording 10 hits and seven RBIs in 10 games. His best performance came in a narrow 5-4 win over Hyannis, when he had two hits and two RBIs. Tatrow had 17 home runs on 67 hits at Abilene Christian this year.

Ryan Lasko stole three bases in Brewster's win over Chatham this year, recording one hit as well. The Rutgers outfielder leads the team with 43 at-bats, though he has a .186 batting average on the season. He had 16 home runs with a .285 batting average with the Scarlet Knights in 2022.

Stat to Know ' 2.75

Brewster has the third-best ERA in the league, giving up 28 earned runs in 11 games. The Whitecaps best pitching performance came in a shutout win over the Red Sox, who Chatham lost to last night. Against Yarmouth-Dennis, Brewster allowed eight hits, but only walked two batters the entire game.

Last Time They Played

The first matchup between both teams this season started with a pitching duel between Chris Villaman (NC State) and Joe Mancini. The latter allowed just two hits, striking out seven Chatham bats. And even when Mancini exited the game, the Anglers recorded three more hits by the end of the game.

'To win games in this league, you have to be able to pitch, you have to be able to bunt, you have to be able to play those games,' Chatham manager Tom Holliday said. 'Otherwise, you either beat somebody up or you get beat.'

Chatham lost 2-1 despite Villaman not giving up a hit through three innings. Five walks paved the way for the Whitecaps' one run, and Joe Miller (Pennsylvania) gave up a line-drive to right field in the bottom of the eighth to bring Ryan Lasko home for the winning run.
