Game 9 Preview: Chatham at Bourne

Chatham has yet to go back-to-back days with wins in 2022. While the Anglers defeated Wareham in both matchups of Monday's doubleheader, they couldn't carry that momentum into Tuesday against Cotuit. Following a grand slam from Jake DeLeo and a home run from Caden Grice versus the Commodores, Chatham recorded just five hits in its 4-1 loss.

Now, the Anglers go back on the road, facing Bourne for the first time this year.

Probable Pitchers

Nicholas Regalado will get time at the mound for the Anglers tonight, though it's unclear if he or Carlos Rey will get the ball first. Manager Tom Holliday praised Regalado's 'touch,' which helped him record a a 3.86 in 2022 at Florida Southwestern State. He pitched for three innings in the Anglers' 5-4 loss to Falmouth, striking out four batters.

Adam Tulloch is the projected starter for Bourne, appearing in one game so far this season. The Arizona State senior struggled against undefeated Cotuit, letting up six hits and six runs as he finished with a 16.2 ERA. He pitched almost 1,300 pitches with the Sun Devils in 2022, notching a season-best 13 strikeouts against University of San Francisco.

Chatham Players to Watch

While most Angler players have struggled to get on base this season, Jake DeLeo has thrived since arriving back in Chatham last week with six hits in four games. Holliday said DeLeo is a 'cerebral' guy, adding that the experience he had from another season at Georgia Tech has helped him this year.

Nelson Rivera came in for Dominic Tamez toward the end of Tuesday night's loss to Falmouth, immediately recording a single in his first at-bat. Rivera spent most of the offseason as Chatham's only catcher, but he's surrendered the starting spot since Tamez's arrival. Still, Rivera could start tonight or come in late in the game and provide the offense a necessary spark.

Bourne Players to Watch

Jack Duffy has been the Braves most consistent offensive option with 14 hits in 33 at-bats. Duffy's best performance came in Bourne's season-opening 5-3 win over Brewster, when he had three hits and 2 RBIs. After four seasons at Missouri State, Duffy spent the last year at Polk State College.

Christopher Brito is another option for Bourne, one of three players on its roster to record a home run so far in 2022. Though he has a .241 batting average, Brito has walked nine times and brought in four runs.

Stat to Know ' 64

Bourne sits last in the league with 64 strikeouts through nine games. And with Tulloch as tonight's starter, the Braves' pitching struggles could benefit Chatham's offense, which has not yet dominated from the batter's box in 2022. Bourne has also walked 41 batters this year, the second-highest in the league.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers lost 2-1 in their third matchup against Bourne last season. They mustered just six hits with Maxwell Romero Jr. recording a team-high two. Kevin Levari brought in Chatham's only run in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to center field.

But like countless times this season, Chatham couldn't come back as its offense stalled in the final two innings. 'We barrelled up a ton of balls tonight, just didn't get super lucky there in the last inning and a few other times,' Serretti said.
