Game 5 Preview: Chatham at Brewster

Chatham (1-2-1) will travel to Stony Brook Field for a 5 p.m. contest with Brewster (3-2-0) on Saturday. The Whitecaps and Harwich share first place in the East Division, while Chatham sits in third.

Probable Pitchers

Chris Villaman will make his first start with Chatham. The left-handed pitcher allowed one hit over 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in the Anglers' season-opening loss to Cotuit. With NC State, Villaman logged a team-best 11 saves and recorded a 3.40 ERA.

Joe Mancini will get the ball for the Whitecaps. Mancini had a 4.70 ERA in 76.2 innings with Boston College. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed three runs ' two earned ' on five hits and a walk in his start Sunday against Bourne.

Chatham Players to Watch

Jake DeLeo was initially slotted to make his season debut Friday, but the postponement of Chatham's game means Saturday will likely be the outfielder's first game with the Anglers this season. DeLeo hit .234 with Chatham last summer and stole a team-leading seven bases. He hit .286 with a .532 slugging percentage with Georgia Tech this spring.

Roc Riggio is another player set to make his season debut. Riggio hit .295 with 11 home runs as a freshman with Oklahoma State. Riggio will likely play second base, completing an all-Oklahoma State middle infield with shortstop Marcus Brown.

Brewster Players to Watch

Alex Freeland is tied for the league lead with two home runs less than a week into the season. A fixture atop the Whitecaps' lineup, the shortstop is 5 for 19 with two walks and two stolen bases. Freeland hit .282 with 11 home runs with UCF in the spring.

Brennan Milone put together an all-around season with Oregon, slashing .337/.405/.545 in 60 games. He's doing more of the same with Brewster; he leads the team with six hits in five games.

Stat to Know ' 3

If Chatham manager Tom Holliday puts out a lineup against Brewster similar to the one he had ready for the Anglers' game against Cotuit on Friday, Chatham could have three members of its infield ' Brown, Riggio and Aidan Meola ' who played for Oklahoma State in the spring. Brown and Riggio are expected to lock down the middle of the infield, while Meola could occupy third base.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers scored in six of their eight turns at the plate, closing the 2021 season with an 11-6 win over Brewster on August 3, 2021. Chatham's offense punished the Whitecaps, tallying 14 hits and drawing six walks. Danny Serretti hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. Lyle Miller-Green went 3 for 4 with two runs, three RBIs, a walk and a home run.
