Game 5 Preview: Chatham at Cotuit

Following a three-game homestand, the Anglers began their three-game road trip with a 5-4 loss at Falmouth. Chatham scored two runs in the seventh inning, but it couldn't notch a hit in the final two innings to force a tie.

Now, the Anglers head to Lowell Park after losing to the Kettleers 5-0 to begin the 2022 season. Cotuit has yet to lose a game this year.

Probable Pitchers

Carlos Rey appeared in 16 games for Nova Southeastern University in 2022, posting a 1.40 ERA and a season-best eight strikeouts against Barry University on April 22. The lefty closed in Chatham's opener against Cotuit, allowing one hit.

While the Kettleers haven't announced their starter for tonight, Jackson Kelley could come out of the bullpen late as he's already recorded one save this season. Kelley leads Cotuit with seven strikeouts which came in a 4-0 win over Falmouth.

Chatham Players to Watch

Roc Riggio arrived in Chatham two days ago, not seeing any time in yesterday's loss to Falmouth. Riggio played alongside Marcus Brown and Aidan Meola at Oklahoma State this past season, recording 11 home runs with a .295 batting average. In the Stillwater regional, Riggio had four home runs and 17 RBIs.

Thomas Caufield led the Anglers against Falmouth with two hits and one RBI. Caufield spent the last four years at Millersville University, setting a program single-season record with 16 home runs in 2022. He joins Adonys Herrera as the only two Division II players on Chatham's roster.

Cotuit Players to Watch

Carter Trice will start at right field for the Kettleers again tonight after hitting a three-run homer in their 7-0 win over Bourne last night. Trice struck out twice in two at-bats against Chatham, but he'll bring yesterday's momentum as Cotuit tries to notch its fifth straight win.

Caleb Lomavita will serve as Cotuit's designated hitter tonight. He started at catcher against Chatham in the opener. Lomavita was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and earned Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American honors for his play at University of California at Berkeley this year.

Stat to Know ' 0.25

Through four games this season, Cotuit has a combined 0.25 ERA from its pitching staff. The Kettleers have shut out three opponents, striking out 32 batters in the process. The only team to score on the Kettleers was Bourne, who notched three of its four runs against William Privette.

Last Time They Played

The Kettleers spoiled the Anglers' return to Veterans Field in 2022's season opener with five runs off four hits. Manager Tom Holliday said the bullpen was 'overpitching," trying to get as much velocity as possible on each pitch instead of trying to land them in the right spots.

Still, Holliday had high praise for Chris Villaman, who allowed one hit in 2.1 innings. But Cotuit took advantage of the five walks Jacob Watters gave up, six stolen bases and the two-run homer off Carson Whisenhunt. And despite matching the Kettleers' total with four hits of their own, the Anglers left eight runners on base.
