Game 2 Preview: Harwich at Chatham

Chatham hosts Harwich on Monday in search of its first win. The Anglers dropped their season opener 5-0 to Cotuit on Sunday. Meanwhile, Harwich slugged its way to a season-opening win, tallying nine runs and 12 hits against Falmouth on Sunday.

Probable Pitchers

Cy Nielson will start for the Anglers. The lefty recorded a 5.70 ERA in 23 2/3 innings with Chatham last summer. Nielson posted a 3.21 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings with BYU in the spring.

German Fajardo will get the ball for the Mariners. A right-handed pitcher, Fajardo logged a 3.91 ERA in 46 innings with Kansas State. He compiled 64 strikeouts on the season and fanned a season-high 10 batters against Wichita State on May 3.

Chatham Players to Watch

Noah Ledford arrived Saturday and represents one of Chatham's biggest power threats. The redshirt junior blasted 17 home runs, tallied 70 RBIs and hit .348 with Georgia Southern in the spring.

Chuck Ingram comes to the Anglers after leading Wichita State in RBIs. The outfielder hit .310 with a .582 slugging percentage with the Shockers.

Harwich Players to Watch

Gino Groover put together a .364/.440/.568 slash line with 10 home runs this spring with NC State. Groover started in left field for Harwich on Sunday and went 1 for 4 with a walk.

Tatem Levins hit .321 with 16 home runs with Pittsburgh. The left-handed-hitting catcher recorded more walks than strikeouts in the spring. Levins went 1 for 4 with a hit-by-pitch in Harwich's season-opening victory.

Harwich has defeated Chatham in each of the teams' past nine matchups. The Mariners have outscored the Anglers 58-22 over the span.

The Anglers' most recent win over the Mariners came on July 20, 2019, when Chatham scored four runs across the seventh and eighth innings en route to a 6-4 victory. Alejandro Toral had a two-RBI double and Jorge Arenas went 2 for 3 with a home run to lead the Anglers' offense.

Last Time They Played

Chatham had an early lead over Harwich in the teams' most recent matchup, which came on July 30, 2021, but the Mariners scored seven unanswered runs to secure an 8-4 win over the Anglers at Whitehouse Field.

'When they caught up with us, it became a little different ballgame and we didn't respond well,' Chatham manager Tom Holliday said.

Dylan Carmouche took the loss after surrendering five runs over 4 2/3 innings in relief.
