After its road schedule concluded with a loss to Yarmouth-Dennis, Chatham returns to Veterans Field for its final two games against Brewster and Harwich. The two-game stretch starts with the Whitecaps, who defeated Hyannis 4-0 on Monday for their third win in four games and continuing to hold off a late push from Harwich for first place in the East Division.

The Anglers fell to the Red Sox, 8-1, for just their second loss in seven games, and they've pieced together their most successful span of the season to close the year. Adam Tulloch ' one of Chatham's top pitchers since his first appearance ' struck out nine batters across 3.2 innings, including a stretch of six in a row. Now, they'll have a chance to sweep the Whitecaps at Veterans Field this season, aiming to split the season series after losing all three games at Stony Brook Field.

Probable Pitchers

Trevor Martin and Garrett Crowley will be the first two Chatham pitchers to throw against the Whitecaps, with Martin the most likely to open the game. It'd be Martin's second start this season, with the last one coming when Chatham and Wareham tied on July 9. Martin threw three innings and allowed one earned run, striking out a batter and allowing just two hits.

Crowley's last appearance was also his first start, and he lasted four innings in an Anglers victory over Orleans. He struck out seven batters to raise his season total to 33, one behind Tulloch for most on Chatham through their first seven appearances.

Donovan Burke will make his Cape Cod Baseball League debut with Brewster's playoff spot already secured, and the left-hander was just activated on July 31. He's made 15 appearances in two seasons at James Madison, including 13 this past year, and holds a career 3.38 ERA. Among Colonial Athletic Association pitchers, Burke's opponent batting average of .178 was the second-lowest in the conference.

Chatham Players to Watch

Lyle Miller-Green opened the scoring on Monday with his first home run since July 1, driving a ball over the left-center field fence and bouncing off a tree. In between those two home runs, he pieced together an eight-game hitting streak that ended against Orleans on July 31, and spent most of the time in the bottom-half of the Chatham order after serving as ts No. 3 or No. 4 hitter for most of the season. Against the Red Sox on Monday, manager Tom Holliday slotted him back in at No. 6.

Kenny Leveri has recorded singles in two-straight games, the latter coming via a laced ball into right field, while serving as one of Chatham's primary third basemen with Johnny Castagnozzi no longer in the lineup. After Nolan McLean arrived, Levari bounced to the designated hitter position while alternating days in the field, and while he entered an 0-for-15 stretch before the pair of singles, he's etched a spot in the lineup for eight of the last nine games.

Brewster Players to Watch

Jake Thompson extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI double in the third inning against Hyannis, raising the first baseman's average to .278 and also driving in six runs during that span. He hit .342 across 44 games with Oklahoma State this past season, often slotting in their cleanup slot, and averaged more than a hit per game.

Will Simpson's average is only .211, but he sits third on Brewster with 12 RBI on his 15 hits and 13 walks. His 29 strikeouts also lead the Whitecaps, though, something he struggled with during his second season at Washington when he struck out 51 times in 44 games. The seven home runs and 35 RBI Simpson recorded led the Huskies, and he finished second on the team with 52 hits.

Brewster has consistently sat near the top of the East Division standings for the entire season, but holds the lowest average in the league with .215 through Sunday's games. Its offense managed four runs on eight hits against Hyannis on Monday, but the Whitecaps still struck out 12 games. What's carried them has been their pitching, a balanced staff that holds a 3.31 ERA that sits second in the league behind Bourne. Opponents hit .217 against them, also second-lowest in the CCBL, and they've shut out opponents a league-high six times, three more than the next-best team.

Last Time They Played

After Chatham's pivotal homestand ended with three losses in four games, the Anglers dropped a 3-1 game at Stony Brook Field on July 23 to start another three-game losing skid, totaling six losses in seven games and sinking slim playoff hopes even deeper. Chatham's bullpen tossed five innings of scoreless relief ' highlighted by Cade Winquest's 3.1 innings of one-hit pitching ' but allowed the Whitecaps to score two runs off defensive miscues while only managing three hits at the plate.
