The Anglers are playing some of their best baseball of the season right now, with two straight wins and 24 hits in their last three games. Heading into the final week of the season, Chatham sits in last place, but could still make the playoffs with a strong push. Three of their next four games are against Orleans, with the first coming tonight at Eldredge Park.

The Firebirds sit one spot above the Anglers in fourth place with 28 points, one more than the Anglers have this season. They've also won two in a row, their two wins coming against Brewster and Bourne, the two first place teams in each division.

Probable Pitchers

Garrett Crowley is starting for the first time this season in his seventh overall appearance. The Fordham Ram has a 4.65 ERA through 19.1 innings along with 26 strikeouts. Like many members of the Chatham staff, he's had an up and down season. He's given up no runs three times, but allowed two, three and five runs in his other three. Crowley was one of the first Chatham pitchers to last more than three innings when he pitched a scoreless 3.1 on June 26 and pitched a team-high five innings against Cotuit on July 16 until Victor Mederos pitched six on Monday.

Chase DeLauter, usually known for being one of the best power hitters in the league, will make his third start of the season for Orleans tonight. In his first two starts, DeLauter pitched one inning before moving to the designated hitter role, something that is not allowed in MLB but is under NCAA rules. At James Madison this year, DeLauter pitched 7.1 innings with a 1.23 ERA while walking four and striking out one.

Chatham Players to Watch

Lyle Miller-Green came close to hitting a ball out of Spillane Field for his first home run since July 11 yesterday when it went over the fence but a few feet foul, though he did have a double ' his second in three games ' along with two singles against Wareham. The team's RBI leader, who'd cooled off since a hot start to the season, now has four in his last three games and has increased his average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage significantly in that span.

Caeden Trenkle was another of three Anglers with three hits yesterday, and he came a triple away from the cycle with his first Cape Cod Baseball League home run. He'd shown bits of power earlier in the season, with long outs and a handful of doubles, but he has four doubles in eight games dating back to July 16, and his batting average is currently the highest it's been all season.

Orleans Players to Watch

After starting on the mound, Chase DeLauter will likely move to the designated hitter position, where he's one of the most frightening hitters in the league. DeLauter leads the league in slugging percentage (.600) with five extra base hits in his last seven games. He didn't have a hit yesterday against Brewster, but his two walks extended a 14 game on base streak.

Luke Keaschall has done nothing but hit since his activation on July 14. In 14 games, Keaschall has a .424 average and has a hit in every game but his second and third. He's had multiple hits in each of his last eight games, with a four-hit game and three-hit game scattered in there. While most of those hits are singles, he has 15 RBI and nine runs scored on the season.

By one point, Orleans has the second-best OPS in the league. That number is helped by players like DeLauter and league home run leader Tyler Locklear, but the Firebirds also have one of the deepest lineups in the league. Only two players with more than 20 plate appearances have a slugging percentage below .300, and three have an OBP below that mark. On the other side, eight have an OBP above .350 and seven slug above .400.

Last Time They Played

After the first game of a holiday weekend home-and-home series was rained out, the Anglers traveled to Eldredge Park on July 4 for just the second matchup between the two teams. The game was tied at 3-3 in the middle of the fourth inning, but the Firebirds exploded for five runs in three innings to blow the game open, while Chatham couldn't manage to score again in an 8-3 loss.
