Chatham won for just the second time in eight games when it defeated Falmouth, and the Anglers will make their only trip to Wareham this season on Tuesday night ' searching for their first win against the Gatemen this season after a tie and loss. Victor Mederos keyed Chatham's win over the Commodores, tossing six innings, the most by a pitcher this season, and striking out seven while not allowing a run.

The Gatemen assisted a late-season reach for the playoffs by the Angers with a win over Yarmouth-Dennis on Monday, and they've earned points in their last three games via two wins and a tie.

Probable Pitchers

Adam Tulloch will make his third, and perhaps final, start for Chatham this season, as the left-handed pitcher ' selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round ' has until the Aug. 1 deadline to sign or return for another college season. After not allowing a run in his first three appearances, Tulloch's allowed nine over his past three, surrendering 13 hits and four walks.

Only two of Christian Ruebeck's six appearances have been starts, but the Oklahoma pitcher hasn't allowed more than one run, earned or unearned, in any outing. He most recently threw against Hyannis on July 20, and tossed a season-high four innings in their 12-1 win. After making four relief appearances during the shortened 2020 season, Ruebeck threw 10 innings this year for the Sooners and finished with a 10.38 ERA.

Chatham Players to Watch

After a stretch of just two RBI in 10 games, where he lost his grasp on the CCBL's top spot for that category, Lyle Miller-Green has recorded three in the last two games and assisted the Anglers in an area they've struggled in throughout the season: timely hitting with runners in scoring position. His two-run single against Falmouth on Monday drove in two runs and gave the Anglers an early lead in the bottom of the first, and he ripped a double deep to centerfield the previous night against the Commodores.

Monday's game against Falmouth was only the second game that Garrett Martin hadn't recorded a hit in this season, slotting into the left field and designated hitter spots in the Chatham order. The former McLennan Community College player, who's transferring to Oklahoma State for next season, hit .355 and slugged .750 for a group that won the 2021 NJCAA Division I Baseball National Championship.

Wareham Players to Watch

Tommy Troy went 4-for-4 with a walk in Wareham's win over Chatham on July 19, driving in a run and scoring one, too. That raised his CCBL average to .290, and it peaked at .310 after a three-hit game two days later before settling at .279 entering Tuesday's game. He's managed just two hits in his last 15 at-bats, but the middle infielder from Stanford, started 39 of 56 possible games during his first college season, still ranks as one of the Gatemen's top hitters.

Owen Diodati has driven in a team-high 22 runs ' eight more than the next-highest Wareham player ' but he's also struck out 34 times, the most on the Gatemen and third-highest total in the league. Eight of those strikeouts have come in his past three games, a span where he's 1-for-10, and nine of his past 10 final lines at the plate have included at least one strikeout.

During Tres Gonzalez's eight-game hitting streak, he's recorded 14 hits and sits tied for third in the Cape League with 30 hits ' just four shy of the top spot, held by Harwich's Brock Wilken with 34. Only six of the 26 games he's appeared in have ended without a hit, and he's struck out 11 times the entire year, which is the fewest by any Wareham player that has more than eight games with an at-bat.

The Gatemen took an early 4-0 lead and limited Chatham's offense to just three hits in their 8-1 win, pulling away with three runs in the ninth against Sebastian Keane. In the third, David Mendham worked a leadoff walk, later advanced to third on Danny Serretti's single and then scored on a passed ball for the Anglers' lone run. The loss dropped Chatham to 0-2 on a pivotal four-game homestand, and the managed just on win ' a nine-run victory over Cotuit to close it.
