Chatham's season reached a low point when it lost three consecutive games, its longest streak of the season, but the Anglers torched Cotuit with a season-high 12 runs on 13 hits in their win heading into the off day. They'll next travel to Stony Brook Field for the final time this season on Friday and face Brewster at 5 p.m.

The Whitecaps are one of the Cape Cod Baseball League's hottest teams, winning five in a row before falling to Orleans on Wednesday and claiming victories in eight of 11 games overall. They did lose to Chatham in that span, part of back-to-back losses, and that started a stretch of three wins in four games for the Anglers before their losing streak began.

After Will Simpson hit a grand slam in the eighth inning against the Firebirds to give Brewster a 6-5 lead, Orleans responded with three runs of its own in the bottom-half of the inning ' with Luke Keaschall's two-RBI triple breaking the game open.

Probable Pitchers

Dylan Carmouche makes his second start of the season for Chatham, appearing in his fourth game overall since being activated, and he looks to build on the four innings of one-run, three-hit pitching that he threw against Hyannis on July 17. He's allowed three runs all season ' one in each of his three appearances ' and has repeatedly escaped james despite allowing 12 hits and five walks across the 12 innings Carmouche has thrown.

At Mississippi State, he allowed six hits and one earned run in his 7.1 innings out of the bullpen, finishing with a 1.23 ERA and striking out 11 batters while walking just three. Carmouche struck out five batters in Hyannis and five in his Cape League debut against Orleans on July 4.

Brian Fitzpatrick starts against Chatham for the second time this season, as the left-handed pitcher faced the Anglers on June 25 and allowed two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings. That was his worst start of the season in terms of baserunners allowed, and tied his season-high for runs allowed, but Fitzpatrick has since settled in and allowed one run and four hits in 11 innings since. The stretch has dropped the Rutgers pitcher's ERA from 7.20 to 3.00, and his opponent's batting average has dropped from .364 to .214.

Chatham Players to Watch

Maxwell Romero Jr. made Cape League history on Wednesday with his three-home run performance, driving in six runs and keying Chatham's season-best performance on offense. Since starting the summer 1-for-14, Romero Jr.'s lifted his average from .071 to .250 by recording hits in eight of 11 games and driving in 12 runs ' making him just the second Angler to drive in double-digits this season, alongside Lyle Miller-Green.

After Chatham's offensive burst in the opening two innings of Wednesday's game, Kenny Levari remained the only Angler without a hit. He hit a deep fly ball to the center-field wall, but finally hit a ground-rule double to lead off the seventh inning ' his second Cape League hit and first extra-base hit in the four games he's played. Levari's started three of Chatham's past four games at third base, allowing manager Tom Holliday to rest Johnny Castagnozzi, among other infielders, during the stretch of eight games in eight days.

Brewster Players to Watch

Chad Castillo has started all six games since Brewster activated him on July 16, hitting .350 during that span with seven hits in 20 at-bats to go along with five walks. All but one of those starts have come as the left fielder, and he's bounced around the middle of the Whitecaps' order ' hitting as low as sixth in his first game before eventually moving into the cleanup spot. He became the first California Baptist player to earn All-Western Athletic Conference honors more than once, adding an honorable mention after his most recent season where Castillo hit .333 with 67 hits in 53 games.

Spencer Jones has been another constant in Brewster's outfield since arriving from the College World Series, where he appeared in all three games for Vanderbilt but went 0-for-4 with two walks. Despite that stretch, though, Jones still hit .274 with a .346 on-base percentage. He's batting .310 for Brewster this summer across 15 games, tying for the team-high with 11 RBI while also leading the Whitecaps with four hit-by-pitches.

That's how many points Chatham's team batting average increased after its 13-hit, 12-run output against Cotuit on Wednesday, and the average has risen .011 points since the last time the Anglers and Brewster met on July 14 ' the second-largest jump in the CCBL in that span besides Hyannis' growth from .176 to .212. That .211 Chatham average still ranks last in the league, but its offense has recorded eight or more hits in six of the past eight games to provide a glimpse of gradual improvement.
