Game 25 Preview: Wareham at Chatham

The Anglers came two innings away from winning their fourth game in five days when Josh Rivera launched a home run to deep center field, giving the Anglers a one-run lead. But an eighth-inning rally from Harwich paired with lefty reliever Owen Coady allowing no baserunners to seal a 3-2 win for the Mariners.

The Wareham Gatemen are also coming off a loss, this one a 8-4 loss to first-place Brewster. Despite a near-even hit ratio ' 10 for Brewster, eight for Wareham ' four doubles by the Whitecaps put them on top. They've now lost six in a row and come to Veterans Field with just two wins in their last 10 games.

Probable Pitchers

Bryce Osmond is making his fourth start of the season and second at home. The Oklahoma State righty shined in his last outing, allowing just one run and two hits over four innings in a fog-shortened game against Brewster. He kicked off Chatham's stretch of eight straight games without an off-day and looks to build off his Wednesday performance.

But despite recent success, Osmond struggled in his first two starts of the season. In six innings, he allowed four runs and nine hits while walking four. His opponents batted as much as .375 against him before he brought that number down to .306 last week.

Mack Anglin will start alongside Osmond in his Cape Cod Baseball League debut after he was signed by Wareham late last week. In 56.1 innings at Clemson last season, Anglin recorded a 3.99 ERA over eight starts and five relief appearances. He posted a 2.27 strikeout to walk ratio while averaging nearly 10 K/9.

Chatham Players to Watch

Sebastian Keane was originally scheduled to start for Chatham but will instead come out of the bullpen following three or four innings from Osmond. The former 11th-round draft pick has been on and off this season, allowing one combined run in his first and third appearances and seven in his second and fourth. Still, over 12 innings, Keane has struck out 13 batters while walking only four.

Danny Serretti spent a few days out of the lineup with minor soreness, but had two hits last night in his return to maintain a four-game hit streak. Serretti has been one of Chatham's most consistent players since his activation, usually leading off and playing second base. He's batting .300 in 10 games along with five walks and three stolen bases.

Wareham Players to Watch

Wareham's offense has been inconsistent over its win streak, but Tres Gonzalez put on an impressive performance last night against Brewster. In five at bats, he had two hits, scored a run and recorded an RBI. Gonzalez, a teammate of Chatham's Jake DeLeo at Georgia Tech, is batting .281 overall this season with a .395 OBP.

Cade Fergus was Chatham's biggest cause for concern in the tie last time the two teams met. Fergus had two hits ' one a triple ' and scored both times he got on base. His .810 OPS is the second highest on the team, and he has hits in each of his last two games.

Stat to Know ' .188

Wareham's team batting average was .238 seven days ago, but they now get a hit less than a fifth of the time at the plate. It's hard to pinpoint a bright spot on the offense, as few players are getting on base several times a game and even fewer are getting hits in consecutive games. The Gatemen's season batting average has dipped to .226 with a .312 OBP, and they have the second second-worst win percentage in the entire league, above only 3-19 Hyannis.

Last Time They Played

One swing was enough when Lyle Miller-Green hit a grand slam in the third inning, the Anglers' only hit of the night. They struck out 19 times, with Miller-Green accounting for three of those. Wareham started scoring with two hits, a walk and an error in the third and finished the night with eight hits in the 4-4 tie on July 9.
