The Chatham Anglers have every reason to celebrate after a 6-3 win over Brewster last night in arguably their best offensive performance of the season. Before the game was called after the fifth due to fog, they had eight hits and just three strikeouts, one of the lowest strikeout rates of the season. Chatham had been plagued with strikeouts all season, but its offense, after an off day, consistently put the ball in play.

To start off three straight away games, the Anglers will travel to Yarmouth-Dennis to face the Red Sox, who also beat the Whitecaps in their most recent game. The Red Sox never trailed in their 5-4 win the day before a Wednesday off day and now welcome the Anglers to Red Wilson Field.

Probable Pitchers

Chase Hampton will take the mound for the Anglers in an attempt to bounce back after allowing four runs in 1.1 innings to Cotuit in his last outing. He looked shaky against the Kettleers from the beginning, allowing two singles, a balk and a hit batter in the first inning before hitting two and giving up a double in the second, all of whom scored after he was taken out of the game.

But in his first two outings, Hampton dominated Brewster's offense. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven in his first appearance, then came back and one-hit the Whitecaps and struck out five of the ten batters he faced.

Ross Dunn will start for the Red Sox and try to keep his scoreless streak alive. Through four appearances and 7.2 innings, Dunn has not allowed a run and has given up only two hits. He's struck out 17 of the 30 batters he's faced, including eight of 12 against Hyannis. Dunn's weakness this season has been walks, though ' he's walked five so far, and opponents have a .233 OBP against him, compared to just a .080 average.

Chatham Players to Watch

Maxwell Romero Jr. had his best offensive outing of the season against Brewster, with a double and a fifth-inning single against the left-handed Hunter Owen. Romero's played in every game since he returned from Omaha, and he has two doubles and four hits in his last three games.

Trevor Martin spent the first few weeks coming out of the bullpen for Chatham before making a start last week. He won't be starting today, but he's scheduled to come in relief after Hampton's night is finished, likely after three or four innings. Martin has a 2.84 ERA, giving up two runs in 6.1 innings so far this season. In his start against Wareham, he was responsible for one of the two runs that crossed the plate after batters reached on two singles, a walk and an error. At the end of the inning, he left two runners in scoring position before Cy Nielson took over in the fourth.

Yarmouth-Dennis Players to Watch

Dominic Keegan was activated ahead of the game with Chatham and will likely see some action in the game. The utilityman started all three games of the College World Series final at first base for Vanderbilt, although he went 0-for-9 in the eventual series loss. Keegan was drafted by the Yankees in the 19th round but announced he would return to college, and the Red Sox activated him two days after the draft. Over the whole season, Keegan batted .345 with a 1.065 OPS, both team-leading numbers.

Wyatt Hoffman has been a consistent part of Y-D's lineup, and for good reason. Hoffman's average has not dipped below .300 since the fifth game of the season, and he's usually good for at least a hit a game. At Veterans Field on July 6, Hoffman had three hits and a stolen base in the Red Sox's eventual 6-3 win over the Anglers.

Despite spending nearly all of the season up until a few days ago in first place, the Red Sox have the lowest OPS in the East Division. Several players, like Hoffman, can hit well, but they're the only team in the division to not yet hit double-digit home runs as a team, and the second-lowest total is Chatham's 14.

Last Time They Played

The Red Sox came to Veterans Field on July 6 and wasted little time getting ahead. They scored five runs off five hits in the first inning and each Y-D player had an at bat before any of the Anglers did. Alex McFarlane regained his composure after that, allowing three more baserunners in the following two innings while striking out six. They only scored once more, in the sixth, but it was enough to hold off Chatham's three runs.
