Tropical Storm Elsa postponed several West Division Cape Cod Baseball League games, but the Chatham Anglers are expected to play Friday as the worst of the storm will hit just north. The Anglers descended into last place on Thursday after the Harwich Mariners defeated Yarmouth-Dennis to propel them one game above Chatham for fourth place.

Chatham will take on Wareham at Veterans Field in an attempt to break another losing streak. The Gatemen are in third place in the West Division, but they and the Anglers both have five wins on the season, with Wareham tying an extra game that Chatham lost. Except for the 10-1-3 Braves, the other four teams in the division are at .500 or lower.

Probable Pitchers

Garrett Crowley will make his fourth appearance of the season and first start. He spent his first three appearances entering between Daniel Federman and Victor Mederos, but Crowley gets the nod Friday with Federman's release prior to the draft. Over 9.1 innings pitched, Crowley has allowed just three hits while striking out 15. His 1.92 ERA is one of the lowest on the Anglers as well.

Jack Noble will start against Crowley in his CCBL debut. Noble made 12 appearances and 10 starts this season at Long Beach State, posting a 2.79 ERA and holding opponents to a .215 average. He reached the 10-strikeout mark twice and had a scoreless five-inning start against UC Irvine in May.

Chatham Players to Watch

Cy Nielson will pitch after Crowley, looking to bounce back after two consecutive rough appearances. In the home-opener, he allowed just one run in three innings, but has allowed seven in his two appearances since. Against Orleans on July 4, he walked in a run while striking out just one of the four batters he faced. This season at BYU, Nielsen struck out 33 batters in as many innings and finished with a 3-3 record.

Matt Hogan has been used sparingly since he's been activated, but the lefty could have an impact against right-handed Noble. Hogan nearly lifted a broken-bat home run in his CCBL debut against Orleans and scored both times he got on base against Hyannis. Despite his .125 average this season, Hogan is tied with Danny Serretti for the second-highest on-base percentage on the Anglers with .364.

Wareham Players to Watch

The Gatemen lost 10 players to Team USA last week, but Tommy Troy has filled the hole they left. He's started nearly every game since his activation, including each game since the Team USA tour started. Troy paces the Gatemen with a .296 average and .943 OPS, along with a home run in their Wednesday tie with Harwich.

Kamren James and Kellum Clark were both activated on Thursday's off day after winning the College World Series with Mississippi State last week. James was the Bulldogs' everyday third baseman for the entire season, while Clark was the starting DH for the tournament run. Clark hit a home run in the seventh inning of Game 3 to cap off a nine-run night and secure the first national championship in school history. In Game 1, James hit a first-inning home run off Jack Leiter and reached base three times in Game 2.

The Gatemen lead the division in home runs, hitting 15 in 14 games this season. Over a quarter of the runs they've scored have come via the long ball, and most of their home run hitters are still on the roster.

Last Time They Played

The Gatemen shut out the Anglers 7-0 almost two years ago to the day. It was Chatham's third shutout in four games, and Wareham bounced back after ending a 10-game win streak the game prior. The Anglers put seven batters on base, with two of them getting out on double-plays on the following pitch. Wareham struck out three Chatham batters in an inning twice as well.
