The Chatham Anglers return to Veterans Field after winning their first road game of the season, a 4-1 win over Hyannis where the pitching staff struck out 19 batters. It was a game where all of the small hits added up, with a two-out rally starting the scoring for the Anglers in the second inning. After relying on the long-ball for much of the season, manager Tom Holliday said that was exactly what he's been wanting to do on offense all season.

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, who have been in first place nearly the entire year, have won their last two games and return to Veterans Field for the second time this year ' one of three venues they've lost a game in this year.

Probable Pitchers

Alex McFarlane (Miami) is making his first start for Chatham tonight and has arguably been one of its best hurlers so far this year. The freshman has allowed one run in six innings this year, and only four batters have reached base with him on the mound. He's pitched four perfect innings, with two batters reaching in each of the other two and has held opponents to a .100 average.

Nick Dombkowski is a name the Anglers are familiar with, as he was the opposing starter in Chatham's first loss of the season on June 22. He allowed six hits in six innings, walked zero and didn't allow a run in the rain-shortened game. Since then, he's only started once, allowing two runs and a solo home run to Harwich but still coming away with the win after Y-D scored five runs in the first two innings.

Dombkowsi puts more pressure on his defense than some other pitchers, striking out less than a quarter of the batters he faces. His success comes rather from not allowing hard contact ' despite giving up a hit per inning, he's only allowed two total extra-base hits.

Chatham Players to Watch

Josh Rivera (Florida) has been on a roll recently, with a double on Sunday and three at-bats that ended with reaching base on Monday. He's not a power hitter ' he had just five home runs this season at Florida ' but when he reaches, he scores a good amount of the time due to his speed. If his bat stays hot, he may be exactly what Holliday wants from his players.

Danny Serretti (North Carolina) has gotten on base three times in six plate appearances for the Anglers after he was activated Sunday. A natural shortstop, he made a start at third base against Hyannis to make room for Rivera. But like the fellow shortstop, he isn't much of a power hitter, either. His success at North Carolina came from getting on base often in a defense-first position.

Y-D Players to Watch

Wyatt Hoffman is on a hot streak for the Red Sox, with a home run Monday against Falmouth paired with another single where he later scored. He's been a staple in the Red Sox's lineup, playing in every single game since June 23. He's tied for the third best average on the team with .333 and is riding a seven game hitting streak heading into Tuesday's game.

Kody Huff has two hits in his last four games and six total since his activation last week. He's tied with Hoffman in average and although he has only hit singles so far, the catcher had 17 extra base hits this year at Stanford. The redshirt freshman started in all but one game this year and maintained a .263 average with a .336 OBP.

Despite sitting on top of the division all season and going 6-3-4 in that time, the Red Sox have the second-worst run differential in the East Division. They often play close ' as shown by their four ties ' but when they lose, they lose big. They lost two games in a row earlier this season and were outscored 23-6 in that span. Their only other loss was a 4-1 loss to Chatham. Y-D's largest margin of victory was a 7-1 win over Hyannis on July 4, and three of its six wins have been decided by one run.

Last Time They Played

The Red Sox and Anglers both scored in the second inning on July 2, and they kept that 1-1 tie until the sixth inning, when Logan Britt lifted a home run for his second Cape Cod Baseball League hit to give the Anglers a lead they'd never relinquish. Daniel Federman allowed just one run, and Garrett Crowley and Victor Mederos entered in relief and threw six no-hit innings to finish the game.
