Chatham's game against Orleans canceled due to rain

The Chatham Anglers' game on Saturday against Orleans has been canceled due to rain. Because of a condensed schedule this season, with 40 games in 46 days, there will be no makeup game for this game or any other game that may be canceled in the future.

Playoff eligibility is based on percentages this year, rather than points as in years past, as each team will play a different number of games. Chatham currently sits in fourth place in the East Division standings with a 4-5-2 record, trailing Brewster, Orleans and first-place Yarmouth-Dennis. The Anglers next play Sunday at Orleans with Austin Vernon on the mound. They will be streamed live on the Cape Cod Baseball Network with the Anglers Extra Pregame starting at 6:40.

Orleans was scheduled to throw Donovan Benoit on Saturday and Georgia's Jonathan Cannon on Sunday, and it's unclear at this point which arm the Firebirds will use for the single game.

After facing Orleans, Chatham travels to Hyannis on Monday before returning to Veterans Field and facing Yarmouth-Dennis on July 6. The Anglers snapped a four-game winless streak with a 4-1 win over the Red Sox in their previous meeting, using home runs from Lyle Miller-Green and Logan Britt to lead the offense.
